Is that o.k. with Darrell? > > Best, > > Dawn Hi, Dawn: I have a dual hat on here, as a resource and as the list admin. First, if anyone would *prefer* to ask me privately, I would not object; and a private request will get a private reply. However, I like to see answers to questions to appear on the list and not just to go to the one who asked. Part of the beauty of a public list is that it is not just a query board, which I find as boring as watching paint dry. I have had major breakthroughs in my own research come from two other people corresponding about a topic that I did not, at first, think was of any interest to me. There is also the issue of the archives. Many times someone will read a message there, not see the answer, and then send another message asking the same question -- and the one who provided the answer the first time may, or may not, still be able to help. Even when it is not in question and answer format, the activity on the list is a fabulous resource for Windsor County researchers, present and future. As far as the volume on the list goes, that will die down soon enough. These things tend to run in waves. I get over 300 e-mails on a *slow* day ... one list I subscribe to, TMG-L, once sent me over a dozen DIGESTS in one day. No, we don't want VTWINDSO-L to get that big, just for the sake of size! But it's like the weather in Vermont, if you don't like it, wait a minute [grin]. Darrell probate looker-upper and list admin [email protected]
