Hello, "Vermont Place-Names" by Esther Munroe Swift says, p. 562, that it has always been considered most probable that Windsor Vt was named after Windsor CT, since some of the Windsor VT grantees were from CT. The CT town of that name was, in turn, named for Windsor in England, the home of many early settlers in Mass. Bay & Connecticut colonies. Swift also raised the possibility that Windsor Castle in England may have been a motivation.
