    1. [VTWINDSO] Abel Herrick, CT > NH > VT
    2. Joann H. Nichols
    3. Abel Herrick was born ca 1758 in Plainfield, Windham Co., CT, son of Andrew(5) and Abigail (Hall) Herrick, died 13 Aug. 1842 [or 1848], buried Sheddsville Cemetery, West Windsor, VT, age 84 [info on birth and death dates from VT records cemetery card]. He married Polly Partridge 2 Jan. 1791 in Plainfield, CT [from Plainfield Church Records, NEHGR 17:230]. She was born ca 1767 in MA and died 6 Sept. 1839, Windsor, VT. The Herrick Genealogical Register, 3rd edition [HGR3], lists five children: [not in birth order] Abel Herrick, b. between July-August 1800 in NH. Married Cynthia Burnham and Amy Rowe; 10 children. Samuel Leonard Herrick, b. between 13 March-13 April 1804, died 9 Feb. 1893; m. Elizabeth Hayes 1 Jan. 1817. [Died West Windsor, VT VR.] Mary Herrick, b. 1797, d. 11 March 1883 in Windsor, Windsor Co., VT. [Death Record says he was born Springfield, NH.] Polly (Mary) Herrick, b. 26 April 1806 in Hartland, Windsor Co., VT [not recorded, I doubt that it is correct]. Leonard Herrick, born 1808, d. 7 April 1882. Married Rosanna Burnham in Windsor, VT. Six children. I have found Abel Herrick in 1800 census in Plainfield, Cheshire Co. [now Sullivan], NH with 20010 30010. In 1810 he is in Cornish, Cheshire Co. [now Sullivan] NH with 111001 41110. In 1820 he is in Windsor, Windsor Co., VT with 010001 130010. My question is: Since Abel was married in 1791 in Plainfield, CT, could he have had other children before the above listed children? I believe that there might have been a son named Martin who enlisted in the War of 1812 from Vermont. Martin was supposed to have been born about 1793. Hope someone can help! Joann Nichols

    1. [VTWINDSO] WELLS / WELLES of Windsor Co., VT -- early 1800s
    2. LadyBonita (USA)
    3. I am up against a brick wall and was hoping someone might be able to help. The earliest proof I have for my 'brick wall' is that he married in Windsor Co., VT: Wells, James (b: 13 Mar 1792 per headstone) Earle, Persis (d/o of John Earle) Married 13 Dec 1810 Windsor Co., VT I found this on the microfilm of the vital records index cards in Dallas Public Library. I also found Persis birth. Unfortunately, here in Phoenix, AZ where I live now, I don't have access to the microfilms anymore. The next proof I have on him is the birth of his last child in Huron Co. (later Erie Co.), OH (Firelands) in 1830. I found him on the 1840 census but he has left his family and I do not find him again (hard to determine 'which' James Wells he is) on the 1850-1870 census until I find his headstone next to his wife with a death date of Jul 1870 (a month after the census) in Norwalk, Huron co., OH. However, from later census his children state he was born in NH or CT. The children's birth locations (except for the last) I have only found on census records is listed as either VT or NY between 1810 and 1825. I did find an application for the Daughters of the War of 1812 by a grand-daughter of his youngest son dated 1924. I was pleased until I realized she had the marriage of James and Persis in Albany, NY rather than Windsor Co., VT. So, now I am suspect of all the data except for the list of children. I am at a loss since I have been unable to find ANY clues to James Wells parents and/or siblings. I did find one researcher in VT that sold me his data. The problem was there was not ONE ounce of proof ... And after DNA testing it was proven that the siblings they had listed for James (as the son of Thomas Wells and Harriet Fagan) all fit into DIFFERENT DNA families .. So not related. His reason for me not being able to substantiate any of his data was that they were Loyalists ... However, even Canadian sources did not list them. I am in hopes that some one might be researching the WELLS / WELLES of Windsor Co., OH and might be able to help me work their lineage to see if there is a possibility that James fits into the family. In case you look, I did find a James Wells born in Ryarsh, England and baptized on 13 Mar 1792 to a Nicholas WELLES. Even though I have scoured all the passenger records available for Canada and America between 1792 and 1810, I have not found a Nicholas or James that fits. Any help would be appreciated.
