    2. Jim, I too have a lot of relatives that lived in and around the Cavendish area. I would love to be able to see some of those records. Barbara Bateman **************Vote for your city's best dining and nightlife. City's Best 2008. (http://citysbest.aol.com?ncid=aolacg00050000000102)

    3. Please add me to the list of people who would like to examine those records. My great grandfather was born in VT. I have seen the words Royalton and Sharon. I am not sure which is the city and which is the county. If any can help me I would appreciate it. My ggrandfather was Elias Curtis Morse/Moss. He was born about 1806. I am trying to find his parents. He was in Missouri in 1850, married to Sarah J. McGill. They are neighbors, along the northern boundary of the county. There is no Royalton County in Vermont; ditto for Sharon. If you are referring to Windsor (or West Windsor), they too are Towns in Windsor County. For the most part, for Vermont as for New England in general, counties are not all that important for genealogy; so a genealogical reference to simply "Windsor, Vermont" is extremely likely to refer to the Town, not the county. Some count the Vermont Probate Courts as parts of counties, but technically you shouldn't. They are independent of county government, although each county has either one or two Probate Districts and those districts do not cross county boundaries. It's not an important distinction for the most part. For more, or for clarification, ask. Darrell -- Darrell A. Martin darrellm@sprynet.com
