    1. [VTWINDSO] Who is Blanch Wheeler?

    3. Hello Windsor list, I am hoping someone here can help with a "mystery" - or suggest how I can find an answer. Recently, a person diving in the White River, near the bridge in Gaysville (Stockbridge) found a headstone, inscribed BLANCH WHEELER b. Nov 15, 1914 There is room to put a death date, but that last line is completely blank. So far, she doesnt seem to have been a Stockbridge resident and there is a question as to how the stone ended up in the river. Thoughts: Often pranksters steal headstones and eventually dispose of them, but.....stones in a cemetery would usually include a death date, unless a wife who was to be buried next to her husband, in which case it would usually be a double stone. The flood of 1927, which wiped out much of the village of Gaysville and which changed the course of the river, *might* have moved a stone which was in the process of being carved. Unless the stone had been (partially) carved after Blanch's death, it seems likely that Wheeler was her married name - a stone wouldnt have been carved assuming that she would never marry. Need any suggestions of how to find out who she was, have tried a few things, with no luck. SSDI - no Blanch (or Blanche) Wheeler with that birth date 1920 census - no Blanch Wheeler in this area no Blanch (anything) age 5 or 6 in Vermont Can search (by trip to Middlesex) any Wheelers and look for Blanch, but if it is a married name (even if she married in VT) might be hard to find. Any ideas????????? Barb Vellturo Our Stockbridge-Gaysville Website http://www.rootsweb.com/~vtgenweb/vtwindsor/StockbridgeVT.htm
