    3. I just found a record that indicated my 'brick wall' was living in "Old Windsor" as of 16 Sep 1813 when his son, Francis James WELLS was born. Does anyone know of anything that could 'prove' them being in "Old Windsor"? They did have several children born in VT through about 1827 before them moving to Ohio. My brick wall is James Wells b: 13 Mar 1792 (from headstone) and married Persis EARLE in Windsor Co on 10 Dec 1810 (first proof for him ... it was from the 'card index' of VT vital records .. I wonder if the actual marriage was in 'Old Windsor" Is "Old Windsor" a township or a town? Bonita Phoenix, AZ Bonita \\\|/// \\ ~ ~ // ( @ @ ) ----oOOo-(_)-oOOo---- Just Looking for clues ... 1. Re: [VTWINDSO] Catholic Practices 1850-1875
    2. Hi Robin! I can assure you that all stillborn or all?babies born -age not withstanding, were usually buried in the family plots. Whether there was a gravestone, was a matter of economics. Several children might be buried in the same grave, because of the high mortality rate at the time. There would be a church record of the burial. I would imagine that miscarriages might have been handled the same way -- "life begins at conception"?has been?a church teaching, forever! I had relatives in Charlestown, NH and Springfield, VT at that time. The town records indicate that at least three children were probably stillborn or died the day they were born. There are no tombstones for them, so I'm wondering what happened to them. Robin in Maryland **************Start the year off right. 3. I do know one Catholic, an Irish railroad builder Matthew Leonard, who was murdered in a fight by fellow Irishmen in Ludlow in 1848, was buried in the Catholic Burying Ground in Claremont NH. I believe this cemetery is located just behind the Fiske Free Library on Broad Street. His wife and family, however, are buried in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Ludlow. The condition of Elliott Gilson, who is ill with diphtheria at his home on Union street, is much improved. Edward Wallace, an employee of the Vermont Snath company, narrowly escaped being asphyxiated by gas last Friday morning. When he returned Thursday evening he left a gas stove, which is supplied by a coin meter, lighted. During the evening the supply of gas ran short and when members of the household started to get breakfast Friday morning they placed another quarter in the meter, the result being that the gas escaped through the stove in Mr. Wallace's room rendering him unconscious. His condition was discovered by members of the family. Fred C. LaFountain is ill. Mrs. John Huron underwent a serious operation at the hospital last Friday. Transcribed by, Joan H. Bixby

    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" two old photographs of Helen Neal DORR. The first is a photograph which was taken at the Purdy Studio in Boston, Massachusetts. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Helen appearing to be in her 20's at the time it was taken. The second is a photograph taken at the Fellows Studio in White River Junction, Vermont. This second photograph was likely taken in the 1890's with Helen appearing to be in her teens at the time it was taken. I am hoping to locate someone from her family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to the care of her family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
