The probate & naturalization site, http://www.sampubco.com/ had been revamped in many ways. Some are subtle and others are upfront. What is the big change? all new additions are listed right on home page. And I would appreciate feedback/response from any of you to improve in some areas I may not be so obvious to. and get ready for a sudden surprise that's on the site. W. David Samuelsen SAMPUBCO
Jim and Anna, The best place to put photos of Tombstones is on FindAGrave (www.findagrave.com ). I just returned from a trip to VT to do research and I brought home a bunch of photos that I intend to put there. They are from Chittenden, Orange and Windsor counties. Surnames are LAMSON, STOW (STOWE), and WELLER. Hi Harriette, Thank you for your offer to do lookups in the Old South Church graveyard. Are any of these people buried there: 1) Ebenezer HOISINGTON served from Windsor, VT in the Rev. War at Crown Point and Ticonderoga, NY, 2) Ebenezer's son, Elias HOISINGTON, b. Jan. 10, 1758 m. Mary STOWELL served from VT in the Rev. War; 3) Ebenezer's son, Elijah HOISINGTON served from VT in the Rev. War; 4) Ebenezer's son, Elisha HOISINGTON served from VT in the Rev. War; 5) Ebenezer's son, Aaron HOISINGTON b. 1770 m. Hannah WILSON 6) Ozias HOISINGTON, bpt. Nov. 1763 d. 1812-15 NY m. 1) Mary BOARDMAN, m. 2) WEalthy BURCH [my ancestor]? Also, I have a hard copy of "The American Family 1939 Supplement Hoisington" if you would like a lookup. Thanks again, Jan Jordan <jnrose@webtv.net> "Harriette" <hjensen@okcomputer.org> I photographed the transcription of the graves for Hoisington/Horsington Family...
Hi Kevin, Martin ROW served in the War of 1812. He married Anna, and she had a widow pension no. 25626. Please let me know if you would like his short military data. They were not my ancestors. Hi, Cousin Jan. The first Ebenezer was my 4th g-grandfather's uncle. He and his wife are both buried in Old South, as well as the first 4 of his sons (Ebenezer, Elisha, Elias and Orange) and many of their wives. The sons served in the Rev. War as well. I have all of them on my website as well as pictures of their tombstones. I also have copies of their pension applications, some of which are transcribed and posted on the site. I would be happy to do lookups on the others. Ozaias and Wealthy went to NY (possibly via Argentieul CAN). One Hoisington genealogy (Harry's) says they settled in Ellisburgh NY and another (Lyman Draper's) says that Aaron died near Albany NY. I have very little on Wealthy other than her relationship to Ozaias and to her parents. Perhaps you could help me on that. I'd also love to have you register for the website, where you can get all the information I have on the above. I have been researching my Clement line in Windsor with some success, but I have many questions. I am planning a visit to Vermont sometime in the future. Can anyone provide of places I should visit or books I should look to for answers. I will list what I know below with the questions I have. Percival Clement produce a book, Ancestors and Descendants of Robert Clements in 1927 that includes Jacob Clement who was born in New Hampshire. According to this book, the first three of eight children were born in New Hampshire. The others birth state is unknown per the book. According to Census records, we know the two youngest were born in Vermont. The children are Martha (who married Martin Row(e) on 15 Apr 1813), Edna or Edner, Sarah, Stillman, Mary, unnamed child, Theophilus and Jacob Eastman. Their mother was Sarah Hoyt, the daughter of Eastman Hoyt. Jacob Clement died intestate in Winsor district of Vermont about 1812. I have the probate records for his estate and the youth guardianship papers for some of his children. The children mentioned in the youth guardianship, dated 1 Sep 1813, are Edner Clement (minor above the age of fourteen; Reuben Kendall appointed guardian), Stillman Clement, Polly Clement, Theophilus Clement, Jacob E. Clement (all minors under the age of fourteen; Sarah Clement, their mother, appointed guardian) and Sarah Clement (minor above the age of fourteen; Sarah Clement, her mother, appointed guardian). In Jacob's probate record, there is a mention of a son, who was placed under the guardianship of Matthew Patrick before Jacob's death. This son, Ira Clement, is not mentioned in the book by Percival Woods. Here are my questions. Where do I find birth records for the children? Where do I find out more about the guardianships of Edner and Ira Clement (which I believe to be apprenticeships)? Where is Jacob buried? Did Sarah Hoyt Clement remarry or not? Where is she buried? Where would I find this information? Is Polly the same person as Mary or another child? Where can I find the death records and burials of their children? Thanks for any assistance you can provide. Sincerely, Kevin Clement Library Director Historical Society of Baltimore County 9811 Van Buren Lane Cockeysville, MD 21030 410-666-1878 bchistory4@verizon.net www.hsobc.org
Hi, Kevin. When I was in Windsor, I spent two days researching at the Town Clerk's office. They have records from the very earliest to the present day plus an index file. The early records include births of children born elsewhere to Windsor residents. The clerks allowed me to take digital pictures. Although the record room is fairly dark, don't use flash. It will eventually destroy the early records and the later ones are enclosed in plastic sleeves. I did all my photography hand held because I had so many pictures to take, but had no problem being able to read the document pictures (although some were a tad shaky and I wouldn't want to post them on the web). If you have a problem in that area, a small tripod that allows you to shoot downward would work well if you are taking just a few pictures. A second good source is the history room at the public library on State St. You might also want to check the Town Clerk's office for West Windsor for early records, as Windsor was divided and undivided a couple of times early on. I forget exactly where that office is, but there is a list of Vermont Town Clerks on the web. Incidentally, I found all of them to be very helpful and no one objected to digital photographs. Hi, All. When I was back in Vermont 4 years ago, I photographed the transcription of the graves that was in the vestibule because most, if not all, the early burials were of relatives. I finally got around to transcribing them and putting them online. I would post the transcription to the list, but it would be too long. The transcription is on my Hoisington/Horsington Family website (URL below), which requires a free registration. Or, if you prefer, I will do a lookup for you. Dear Jim, Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated. Due to the kindness of a stranger I discovered that my 3rd great grandmother, Sarah Mitchell Smead (whose husband was born in Windsor, VT) was declared insane in Saratoga County, NY in 1844. Someone had simply come across the Lis Pendens with that declaration and sent it to me. So, one never knows what one might find in legal documents!!! Thank you for your response.
