--------------0E09568BDD6C9A5A43C42910 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi, I am trying to find out about my Dunham ancestors. I think that there is a good possibility that they left MA and went to Windsor County, VT after 1776 and before 1790. A Hand written lineage from my grandmothers attic that had names but no places. Since then I have been able to find marriage records that put dates and places with my names. I have the names of Uriah Dunham that married Hannah Paddock in Dartmouth, Bristol County, Mass. in 1776. It indicated in the records that Uriah had come from Edgarstown, (Martha's Vineyard) and everything indicates that the Hannah Paddock that married Uriah was the daughter of Nathaniel Paddock and Eunice Delano. (Eunice is a Mayflower descendant.) I cannot connect my Uriah's ancestry. The only Uriah I can find that fits the time frame is a Uriah Dunham in the Revolutionary War records that served to defend the coast of Martha's Vineyard in 1776 (the served date was just before my Uriah was married in Dartmouth) and a Uriah Dunham in Woodstock, Windsor County, Vermont in the 1790 census. The lineage then has their son, Thomas Dunham that married Margaret Allen. I found that they were married in Westport, Bristol County, Mass in 1811. Those records indicate that Thomas was from VT. I am trying to find out if the Uriah Dunham that is in the 1790 VT census is my Uriah. It looks like there's a possibility that my Uriah that married Hannah in Dartmouth, MA may have left and went to Vermont where the records show their son Thomas was from. Eventually, Margaret ( Allen) Dunham appears to have ended up in Washington County, Ohio in 1850 raising her orphaned grand-daughter (Margaret Dunham). I am sure that Margaret (Allen) Dunham raised her grand-daughter but the 1850 &1860 census lists her as Margaret Bryan. I assume she must have been widowed by Thomas Dunham and then remarried a Bryan and widowed again. Margaret ( Allen) and Thomas's son was Franklin Dunham who married Rebecca Williams. I have not found the record of their marriage but a family bible has 1838. Their children Adelaide and Margaret were born in PA but were orphaned at age 2 & 1 . The dates have Adelaide born before their marriage and Margaret just a few months after their marriage. Family papers say that Frankly died in 1838 in St. Louis, Mo and Rebecca died 3 weeks later in Louisville, Kentucky. If any of these names or places coincide with anyone else's families, I would love to find out what happened to fill in the gaps. By the census records it looks like there were Dunhams in several places in Windsor County including Woodstock and Bethel. Any history of the settlers of Woodstock would also be helpful to connect any surnames that also were found in Dartmouth, MA. Any info would be appreciated. Jeanne H

Hi everyone---I have just discovered this list and thought that I would contribute an ancestor whose origins have eluded me for over 25 years. Here is the info that I have. Perhaps someone may hold the key. Elisha Turner, born possibly CT (according to a family tradition),say about 1763; died probably Hartland VT after 1802. He married Hartland VT, 10 April 1788, Betsey Patterson, probable daughter of Joseph and Lydia (-----) Patterson, born possibly RI, say about 1767; died probably Hartland VT after 1820. Elisha and Betsey had two known children: Elisha (married Olive Banister) and Rev. Jesse (married Huldah ----) Elisha and Betsey also had five other probable children---Lydia (married first Andrew Tinkham and secondly Rufus Martin); Hannah (married John Patterson); Abigail (married Oliver Bugbee); Betsey (married Jason Banister); and Joseph (married Elizabeth Hoisington). Elisha may be related in some way to a David Turner of Norwich VT, or to the Turner families who lived in the Connecticut River Valley towns of Deerfield, Hatfield, Whately, Chesterfield and Hadley MA. The family's general migration patter seems to be to the western part of the county and into Addison County. Any help greatly appreciated. Rick Turner

Hi all; I'm new to the list and wanted to see if anyone was researching the above surnames. Love to hear from somebody. Thanks
I believe an ancestor living in Windsor Couny changed his name in the 1860's. Does anyone know how I might find records of this if he did it legally? Thanks!

Hello: I have taken over the Windsor County mailing list as of yesterday. I am pleased to be able to do this even though I do not live in Vermont but Massachusetts as I have several families who migrated to Windsor County. There will be no major changes on this list other than you will get the information I share with my Ct-River-Valley-L mailing list providing it relates to Windsor County area and I will be posting information on Windsor County as well. If any of you have any information you would like to share with the group please do...such as vital records, town histories, settlers, etc. Just be sure to list your sources. I will be putting up a surname list of my ancestors of Windsor County following in another email message and I hope you all will do the same with your surnames until we "get to know one another" . I do have a search list for all the town histories (mostly Mass at this point) but so that you are aware, most of the settlers/folks who migrated to Windham and Windsor counties came from Massachusetts and Connecticut (some NH). The url for this search list is: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl Just put in Ct-River-Valley-L in the box and then another page will come up and you can put name of town and state. (The Mass.towns are in Franklin,Hampshire, and Hampden Counties)........ there are 15 pages of Springfield VERMONT history and also marriages from 1767-1833 on that search list...perhaps you will find an early ancestor there. I am also going to put up a GENCONNECT Bulletin Board up for Windsor County...if anyone has anything to offer....let me know. Let's keep Windsor County mailing list active.....by listing your ancestors by surname....town...and dates.... Cyndy Listowner
Hello, all: Searching for references to various SWININGTON family, originally SWINERTON or SWINNERTON in Massachusetts. Vermont census indexes give various spellings in Windsor Co., all thought to be the same family. SWENNINGTON, Phebe, 1810 census for Windsor, Windsor Co. SWIMMERTON, Samuel, 1810 census, Reading, Windsor Co. Also, there's a very good chance the following belongs. SWINDLETON, Abigail, 1800 census for Windsor, Windsor Co. I will appreciate hearing of any Windsor Co. references to the above variations, or anything similar. Thank you! Bill Swinarton, Scarborough, Ontario. ================== > Subject: Hello and Welcome > Date: Thu, 14 Oct 1999 21:35:47 -0700 > From: Clare <Clare@Rootsweb.com> > To: VTWINDSO-L@rootsweb.com > > Hello, > Please introduce yourself and tell a little about your connection to > this list name.
Hi, I wrote yesterday and wanted to answer some of the questions I'm getting. First of all, PLEASE send your introduction and any info about your county or name TO THE LIST. I'm just administering the list and have no information for anyone :> You can find the list name in the TO: space above. Second, "to adopt a list" means to accept responsibility for the list, sub and unsub people who are having trouble doing it themselves, and building the list by talking on it and helping researchers to discuss their names and counties. You do NOT do any research for them. For the surnames lists, go here to adopt: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/sponsors.html and for the counties go here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/clusters/adoptcounty.html Please go here: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/wizards/ to see more about what administering a list means. I'm glad to help anyone but if you have research to share or discuss or questions about that, please send it directly to the list :> -- Clare Peden Midgley mailto:Clare@RootsWeb.com Allegheny Co, PA Genealogy: http://www.rootsweb.com/~paallegh/ For SUBSCRIBE info and MORE LISTS: http://communities.rootsweb.com/ FREE ###### FREE ###### FREE UNLIMITED WEB SPACE: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/acctform.cgi

When I was in Rochester,Vermont doing research for my families that lived there......I was in an old cemetery called "Village Cemetery" which is located in the old section of Rochester, I take pictures of all the gravestones I find of family members and in one of the pictures I took of a cat that kept following us around the cemetery, the cat was sitting on a tombstone of: Charlotte C./G. Hall daughter of Reuben and Mercy(?) (Merena?) HALL died March 1851 ae 28 yrs Her parents are buried next to her but I dont have the picture as it's not my family but with so many of you searching HALLS in Mass-Conn-and Vt.....someone may recognize Reuben Hall and the information may have value to someone.
