Warren and List: Warren is correct in one aspect of his answer.......hallmark or approval on certain items but NOT any currency as money/gold/silver........ .....there was a great deal of this product in early NEW ENGLAND and it was monitored closely by assayers. clue #2: This item MAY have been used for bartering when money was scarce..........but on the other hand, it was made at home as well as in large amounts. clue #3: some tried using base metals with this item, and if caught were punished.     3. Lists: Part 2 of the gravestone inscriptions of Springfield, Hampden County, Mass grave yards. I do not have the names of cemeteries.....only that they are buried in Springfield. The book shows the "art form" of the gravestones which I am not going to do here as I rather you have as much information as possible so I am just going to list what is said on the gravestones: 24. " In memory of Pelatiah Bliss who being abroad in the public service as surgeon of a regiment. Died near Albany, Decr 26, 1756, in his 34th year" (probably Albany,NY) " also in memory of Pelatiah, his son, who died Nov 8,1766, in his 18th year and was intered. "was of Suffield " ( Suffield is in Connecticut today) 25.
