Good Morning, I just joined your list. I am researching the Folin Family. I found Horace Folin on a 1860 census index. If any one has any information on the Folins I would love to hear from you. Thank you Kelly
Can anyone identify what a "deputy husband " is ? it was a term used in the early days of Massachusetts Bay Colony and the Plymouth Colony as well. When answering, please include all 4 lists. Here are a few odds and ends of stone inscriptions.......the wording "as it is". Some gravestones had long inscriptions those I didnt include here. Southampton,Mass: " The nature of the marker-a wooden slab on which were mounted a daguerrotype and an inscription on paper covered with glass- would indicate that it"s no longer readable even if it's still standing. However, John R.Kippax in his anthology published in 1877, recorded the epitaph as:" " this inclosure was dedicated to the ashes of Josiah Gridley and family. March 16,1852" - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- Cuttingsville, Vermont " the victim of an accident during construction of the 500 foot long covered bridge of the Sullivan County Railroad, an engineering masterpiece in it's day: " William Pelsue died Aug 2,1851, aged 42 years. He was killed at Bellows Falls,Vermont while raising a bridge across the Connecticut River" - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------- Dummerston, Vermont: " Gone home Adin N.French died July 19 1855, AE.29 years and 9 months. " "the deceased came to his death by the explosion of the engine "john smith" on the Vermont and Canada railroad, in Milton,Vt." - ------------------------------------------- Chesterfield,NH: " Roswell Stowell who died Dec 2,1875 in his 60th year" - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Guilford, Vt: " George Gregory, 1877 age 63 (-he was a farmer not a doctor)..."The first man in this country to promulgate the idea of female medical schools" - --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Mary R.Birchard, age 38, Newfane,Vermont. Died at Ashtabula Ohio, Dec 29,1876. Her body was entirely consumed in the terrible railroad disaster which occurred at that place" - --------------------------------------------------- West Dummerston, Vermont " Mrs Sarah C.Whitney, 1880, age 66" - ----------------------------------------------- Hartford, Conn: " Hartford, Conn...1882: those who cared for him while living will know whose body is buried here, to others it does not matter" - ---------------------------------------------------- Here is a good one--not in CRV though ! " I was somebody, who, is no business of yours".........Stowe,Vermont - ------------------------------------------------------- East Hampton,Conn: "Harry Rockwell, 1883, age 89. I too would be interested in the restructuring of towns/cities/villages. It might help in our research. I grew up in a village; by 1960, it was changed to a city, because of population change. Is it possible for a city to lose its status because of loss of population through the decades? Once it is chartered as a city, can it ever be lowered in status? Is that why so many towns disappeared or were renamed? Patricia
