There are three William entries, but these are the only likely two (the other one is dated in 1891): BAKER, William O., residence Barnard, probate district Hartford, type Guardianship of a minor, year 1852, volume 21 BAKER, William, residence Rochester, probate district Hartford, type Intestate, year 1871, volumes 30, 32 Philander died too late to be included (the index is through 1899). I would love to be able to do "here are all the (SURNAME)" lookups, but both from lack of time and in order to encourage others to buy the book from which I am working, I have to limit what I offer to specific names. I have found that when I violate my own rule I end up being buried by a load of "in case there might be" queries, and can't give proper attention to those with specific people they are trying to track down. 3. History of Royalton Vermont, Vol. 2, Evelyn Lovejoy, 1911 There is James listed and no Hoyt/Hoit listed in the genealogy section other than a few women of that name who married into other families. The entries for males are mostly in the History section (Vol. 1) and include Abraham Hoyt, Dr. Moses Hoyt and Ziba Hoyt. There is no James or Asa listed. Royalton Vermont, Hope Nash, 1975 Ziba Hoyt is listed as once owning one of the houses in District 4. Abraham Hoyt is listed as owning one of the farms in District 17 probably originally owned by Ziba Hoyt. Again there is no James nor Asa listed at all. I only have the books temporarily, on loan from NEHGS circulating library. It seems like Ziba or Abraham Hoyt may have been one of the progenitors of this line in Royalton. 3. Connie - and everyone - I have written several times to the probate courts in Windsor county, although I've had fewer dealings with the Hartford district court than the Windsor district, because most of my people lived in the Windsor district. I have always found them to be very willing to assit me in my research, both by making copies of files for which I could give them date, volume, and page number, and in looking through their records for people who died more recently than the published index covers. Once, when I asked about someone earlier, they actually xeroxed and sent to me the relevant page from the published index, so I could figure out which of the people listed might be my relative (since none was listed under the exact name I had asked about). They charge 25 cents a page for copies, quite reasonable, I think. Blessings, Nancy Wygant

    3. Greetings: Sometimes automation is *not* a good thing. I have just discovered, to my embarrassment, that the last value in each probate record taken from "Windsor County, Vermont, Probate Index, 1778-1899" is the VOLUME number, and not, as I have been consistently reporting it, a PAGE number. Please substitute VOLUME for PAGE in any probate record I have sent out recently. My apologies. 2. Edith Bartley
    3. Hello, I have two Pierce Vermont marriages in my records. (I'm not sure they are Windsor County): Willard Lilly, b. E. Calais VT 1827, d. Plainfield Vt 1898, m. 10 Jan 1853 Fanny Pierce, daughter of Stephen and Polly Pierce of Cabot VT. Fanny d. 1884. Willard was the son of Aaron Lilly and his first wife Sally Gregory. Wm Ward Lilly, b. Pulaski NY 1869, m. 5 April 1894 Fannie Pierce (in or of) Londonderry VT. She was the daughter of Alvah and Lucy C. Pierce. Wm Ward was the son of Wm. W. Lilly and his wife Eliza. My source for both of these is Julius Whiting Lilly's "Lilly/ey/ie Family History," a 1930 WPA project of the Los Angeles Public Library. No footnotes/bibliography. JWL gives Eliza's maiden name as: Eliza Davis (Eliza A. Brewer). I don't understand what he means by that. William and Willard are very distant cousins; both are descendants of the George Lillie who was of Reading MA ca. 1650. I have more info on the two Lillys mentioned, but no further information on the Pierces. Edith Lillie Bartley [email protected] At 03:25 PM 10/20/2002 -0600, you wrote: >Hi List, > >I need some help. [snip] Hi, Edith: My guess about Eliza would be that she was born Eliza A. BREWER, and married (first) a DAVIS. For me, the middle initial "A." is an important clue; if she were a DAVIS by birth, I would not expect it in her married name. But I am by *no* means certain.
