Surnames: Hanson, Walstad Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2AC.2ACI/1299 Message Board Post: Please Help! My great-grandmother, Christine Hanson was born 17 March 1855 in Dalsland, Sweden. She indentured herself about 1876 to a family in Brattleboro and was married and living in Minneapolis, MN by 1881. She was able to bring over her brother, Gustaf and sister, Mathilda (Tilda). They were very poor in Sweden and were thought to have been orphans. I need to know if there would be some immigration records, indentured servant records or city directories for Brattleboro or Windham County available. Was there a Swedish population in Brattleboro around 1876? What port would she have likely arrived at? Any kind of hints would be helpful as finding Christine Hanson in Sweden or any where is literally like finding a needle in a haystack. Thank you. Delores from Minnesota
Hi, Delores, Brattleboro has town directories starting with 1871-72. Have you checked the 1880 census for Brattleboro? There were Swedish people here in Brattleboro.
