FALL MEETING, GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY OF VERMONT The Genealogical Society of Vermont is pleased to announce that their fall meeting will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2005, at the Dog Team Tavern, Dog Team Road, off Route 7, New Haven, VT (three miles north of Middlebury, a left turn). From Burlington, Route 7 south 29.2 miles; take Dog Team Road on your right for half a mile. From I-89, take exit 13 to Route 7, then follow previous directions. The meeting starts with registration and refreshments at 9:15 a.m., with the GSV business meeting at 9:45 a.m. The first speaker will be Vince Feeney, speaking on “Pre-Famine Irish in Vermont.” Mr. Feeney has written extensively on the role of Irish immigrants and their descendants in Vermont. The second speaker will be Don Wickman on the subject, “Civil War Letters to Vermont.” Mr. Wickman is author of a newly published book, “We are coming, Father Abra’am,” on the Ninth Vermont regiment of the Civil War. A luncheon will be served at 12:00 noon. Our afternoon speaker will be Kate Kenny of the Consulting Archaeology Program at UVM, speaking on “Burlington’s War of 1812 Burial Ground.” This cemetery has recently been excavated and represents an important and little studied part of Vermont history. The cost to attend this fall meeting is $18.00 for GSV members and $20.00 for non-members. This includes the morning and afternoon program, morning coffee and luncheon.
