    1. Re: [VTWINDHA] Ware family of Wilmington Vermont 1800's
    2. Jessica, A Meletiah Ware family was "warned out" of the town of Wilmington, Vermont on 15 October 1787. The family is listed as Ware, Meletiah, his wife Cloey, his sons Meletiah, Jr., Gates and Daniel, and his daughters, Lina and Betty. (Wilmington Land Records, vol. 1, p. 323 as reported in Rollins, A.M., Vermont Warnings Out, Vol. 2, Southern Vermont, p. 297) A warning out was given by the town fathers to individuals or families for various reasons depending on the philosophy of the local town fathers. Sometimes they were transients, or were living with family with no obvious means of support, or were undesirable for some reason. As the town fathers often felt some responsibility for the welfare of its citizens, they issued warnings out to disclaim that responsibility. Often, the family had been noted in the town records for several years prior to the warning out or sometimes they would start showing up in the town records immediately after a warning out.
