A marker STAR shape with the initials D.A.R. was next to his tombstone. As he was born Windham Vermont 1800 and did not leave until 1829, would he have been to young to have been in the war of 1812-14 Any help appreciated.
You could try having the DAR look him up at the url below: if he is a "patriot" you'll get a brief history of his service. In general the period for which the DAR considers service is 19 April 1775 (Battle of Lexington) and 26 November 1783 (withdrawal of British Troops from New York). Certainly birth in 1800 would appear to disqualify him. Look-up url http://www.dar.org/natsociety/pi_lookup.cfm If you can't figure out why the marker from reading the DAR's response to your look-up request, you could call the state chapter of the DAR and ask them why they placed the marker. bwstephens@hotmail.com wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2AC.2ACI/1642 > > Message Board Post: > > Recently found the Tombstone of ancestor (David E.
