You may want to check NARA to see >what is in his pension files. Ancestry lists him as Emerson H. Thurber, wife >Sarah B. Thurber, F16 VT Infantry. My records show that Emerson Henry Thurber enlisted 4 Sep 1863, and the following 23rd Oct. was mustered into Co. F 16th VT Vol. Reg. He was wounded in the face by explosion of a shell. This caused him total deafness in his left ear and partial deafness in the right. He enlisted for nine months and was discharged 10 Aug 1863. He was a prosperous farmer of considerable learning, and highly respected. Although this is not my Thurber line, I have information on his line and on many other Thurbers. I have an interest in Thurber genealogy in general, and am happy to share my information with anyone interested in that surname. Florence Thurber Gargaro

Correction: Enlistment should have been 4 Sep 1862. Larry Miller spotted the inconsistent dates and emailed me - My thanks to him for spotting my error. Florence
