I am looking for the marriage records of Ambrose P. Dennison & Martha Jane Richardson. Married before 1846. Ambrose and Martha were supposedly both born in Windham County, so I'm assuming they would be married there. Who would I contact for the records if they still exist? Thank you.
My experience with VT vital records is that they are located in the town offices....each town has the vital records that pertain to that town. They are also available at the Berkshire Athenaeum (aka Pittsfield [MA]Library). Hope this (and the following) helps. ~Sally The following was posted to the Vermont Mailing List at Rootsweb by Joann Nichols in 2002: Vermont is different than most other New England states in that the town is more important than the county. Vital Records and Land Records are all filed in the towns. Probate Records are filed in probate districts. We have 14 counties, and some counties have more than one probate district. Middlesex has the Public Records office and it is exit 9, the next exit after Montpelier. From Brattleboro I can make it in just about two hours. It is only about 5 or 6 miles past Montpelier. The Public Records office is open from 8-5 weekdays. Everything is on microfilm. I believe if you have access to an LDS library you can order most of the same films. The vital records in Middlesex are now up to the early 1990s.
