Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2AC.2ACI/1574.1 Message Board Post: Jan, I have a history of Guilford which contains the following information: Wilkins Hill Cemetary (pg 407) Mowry, Caroline M. 1839 Mowry, James 1854 Mowry, Lydia 1847 Mowry, Mary W. 1848 Now, of more interest may be this: MOWRY (pg 485, from a limited collection of limited genealogies) 1) James Mowry (son of John), b. July 26, 1783, m. Lydia Webster of Pomfret, Conn. Sept. 27, 1804. Children: Lucius Potter, b. 1805 James W., b. Apr. 20, 1808 William Pitt, b. 1809 Lydia, b. 1811 Nelson, b. 1813 Ann, B. Aug. 24, 1820, m. Horace w. Lynde (Q.v.) George, b. Apr. 22, 1825 (pg 129, list of businesses in Guilford, early 19th C.) 1824-1832 James & Lucius Mowry Shop & Mill in Dist. 6 (the history has a long section detailing land transactions over time) pg 315 . Amos Hart who sold to L. P. and Wm. P. Mowry in 1842. They sold to J. B. Shepardson who sold to James W. Mowry in 1845. He sold in 1848 to H. A. Scott who sold to Zorah Scott in 1849. The latter reconveyed to J. W. Mowry in 1850 and in 1851 Mowry deeded to Wm. W. Lynde. pg 323 .. and in 1802 deeded 45 acres to Geo. Mowry, of Leyden. Mowry deeded to David Davis in 1804. (I believe Leyden is just over the border in Massachusetts.) pg 335 Thomas Shaw [i]n 1804 ... sold ten acres bounding on the state line, with buildings to James Mowrey. pg 336 A two acre tract, with a dwelling house was sold in 1807 by Thomas Shaw to James Mowry, who sold in 1831 to David D. and Roswell Culver. And that's the Mowry/Mowery's in Guilford. Jan, if you didn't have them before, you now have two places to look - Leyden, Mass and Pomfret, Conn. Hope this helps, and good hunting. Cheers, Dan
