I can't help with the other towns, but all the town records for Londonderry, VT are kept in the town hall. They have all the land records. (way back). The Londonderry Town Hall is in South Londonderry (all one town). I have checked the County office and there is very little. You may have the best luck at the State office or the local Churches. Could someone please tell me what river runs through the town of Newfane? I haven't been able to locate it on any maps, google or otherwise. Thanks, Janet

Connie, This is a good suggestion. Noah may have returned to the area in which his father (or grandfather) lived, but I would have expected him to have taken up residence on family land. However when I checked land records in Marlboro and Newfane back in the 1970's and 80's, I didn't find any land holdings of Noah MORELL's. I never checked Halifax though. Maybe it's time for another trip to the area. Does your society have any information on the John Morrel family and where it may have branched out to? Thanks, Michael ------------ Original Message --------------------- Michael: One would hope that Noah MORELL of Marlboro, VT, who has one childbirth recorded in Halifax, VT (next town south) would connect somehow to John MORREL who appears in the 1790 Halifax census. [1-2-1] No doubt you have already tried that line of pursuit, but just in case..... Halsea Crosier said that Arthur Crosier, an early settler of Halifax, lived on MORRILL KNOLL, which is a site that town historians would like to be able to identify. If you break through the Morell/Morrel/Morrill brickwall, please share the good news. Regards, Connie C. Lancaster, Genealogy Curator Halifax, Vermont Historical Society

What a great idea! Especially for Vermont which should have a manageable sized set of families. I'm especially interested in the project for my major brickwall that I've had for 37 years now. Noah MORELL married in Marlboro, VT in 1850 to Lucy BALL. Noah claimed to be born in Neversink, NY in 1824, and census records indicate his parents were both born in Vermont. That would place them in the state when the population was very limited, but I've never been able to find the set of Morell families that would have been early settlers that I could then start to research in depth. This project might be just the kind of boost a scaling of this brickwall requires! Michael http://webpages.charter.net/mroman/genhome.htm

The URL for the page is http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/vermont/ I think you'll find the page easy to read and use, but if you have any questions or concerns, please contact Josh Taylor, the Vermont FGS state manager josh@djoshuataylor.com The USGW FGS home page, http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/ links to all the states that have a family group project. Some states have thousands of group sheets online, while other smaller states have as few as 10. Please feel free to send your group sheets to all the states they apply to. I hope you'll take advantage of this project. Any family group that lived in Vermont, even for a short time, can be posted. THE ONLY VERMONT PERSON WHO CANNOT BE POSTED ARE THOSE WHO ARE LIVING. Each family group sheet provides space for basic information about father, mother, and children; so if you only know about one family unit, you know enough to put the information up. If you know more, you can add more family group sheets: the father's parents and siblings, the mother's parents and siblings, the children's spouses and children, and on and on. If you've traced the family on into Maine, New Hampshire and New York, you can post your group sheet in those states as well as Vermont. But just one family sheet in one state can be enough to make new and exciting connections. And each group sheet is copyrighted by the submitter....all we do as a USGenWeb Family Group sheet Project volunteer is place your group sheet online for you. It is up to you to decide who else to give you! r group sheet to for their use. We've prepared the pages and forms, added search engines and links, and now it's in your hands. Send in your family group sheets. One a day, ten a day, one a week, whatever works for you. Tell your fellow researchers about the site. Talk about it at your next genealogical society meeting. Mention it in your emails. The more people hear about the site, the more contributions we're likely to get; and the more contributions we receive, the more valuable the project is going to be in helping us all make family connections. Hi Laura, From OFFICIAL HISTORY OF GUILFORD, VERMONT 1678-1961, edited by Broad Brook Grange No. 151, 1961: A plan of Guilford, drawn by Nathan Dwight, surveyor, in 1765, showing the original acre lots: ~ 100 acre homestead lot #91 David Williams, William Crouch ~ 50 acre homestead lot #21 Henry Williams, Rev. Henry Ward. Sorry, I do not know if either of these men are related to your family. They are not my ancestors. Also, I do not have photocopies of the pages on the WILLIAMS family. Previously I borrowed this book through interlibrary loan from my local library for 2 weeks. Jan Jordan <<information on any children of Charles Williams born in Guilford married in 1848. Hi, I'm trying to find information on any children of Charles and Maria Williams. He was born in Guilford. She was born Maria Traversy(various spellings) in Derby, Orleans Co. They were married in 1848. They may have lived in Guilford after their marriage. Any info or suggestions as to where to search would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Laura Callier

Hello, "Some of the Descendants of William Holton, ...." is available on Heritage Quest through my local King County, Washington library, on-line. Date of publication is 1866. City is New York. Publisher is "unknown". It consists of 4 pages of genealogical chart. The last page has children born in the 1850's and 1860's. The book is also available to New England Historical and Genealogical Society members on loan through the mail. Their listing shows the same date. Martha Parker
Book: David P. Holton and Frances K. Holton, Some of the Descendants of William Holton; Early settler of Hartford, Connecticut, Particularly the Children of Joel Holton of Westminster Vermont, (1866?) I'm firming up my source notes and I'm looking for the: city of publication, publisher, and date. Many thanks, Charlie Charles B. My experience with VT vital records is that they are located in the town offices....each town has the vital records that pertain to that town. They are also available at the Berkshire Athenaeum (aka Pittsfield [MA]Library). Hope this (and the following) helps. ~Sally The following was posted to the Vermont Mailing List at Rootsweb by Joann Nichols in 2002: Vermont is different than most other New England states in that the town is more important than the county. Vital Records and Land Records are all filed in the towns. Probate Records are filed in probate districts. We have 14 counties, and some counties have more than one probate district. Middlesex has the Public Records office and it is exit 9, the next exit after Montpelier. From Brattleboro I can make it in just about two hours. It is only about 5 or 6 miles past Montpelier. The Public Records office is open from 8-5 weekdays. Everything is on microfilm. I believe if you have access to an LDS library you can order most of the same films. The vital records in Middlesex are now up to the early 1990s.
