Surnames: Manley, Packard, Douglas, Wilkinson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2AC.2ACI/1648 Message Board Post: I am trying to find a marriage record between Samuel Manley and Martha Packard who would have been married around 1796 approximately. They lived in Windham county about that time. I do not know for sure, but I think Samuel's parents are James and Hannah (Marsh) Manley and Martha's parents were Josiah Bruce and Eunice (Manley) Packard. I found the vital records of both families living in Dummerston and then the Packards moving to Marlboro. That is where Samuel and Martha's oldest son was born also in 1797. I am trying to find any information on either one of these families. Any help would be truly appreciated. Thank You.

Jessica, A Meletiah Ware family was "warned out" of the town of Wilmington, Vermont on 15 October 1787. The family is listed as Ware, Meletiah, his wife Cloey, his sons Meletiah, Jr., Gates and Daniel, and his daughters, Lina and Betty. (Wilmington Land Records, vol. 1, p. 323 as reported in Rollins, A.M., Vermont Warnings Out, Vol. 2, Southern Vermont, p. 297) A warning out was given by the town fathers to individuals or families for various reasons depending on the philosophy of the local town fathers. Sometimes they were transients, or were living with family with no obvious means of support, or were undesirable for some reason. As the town fathers often felt some responsibility for the welfare of its citizens, they issued warnings out to disclaim that responsibility. Often, the family had been noted in the town records for several years prior to the warning out or sometimes they would start showing up in the town records immediately after a warning out. Jim Otton

Dear Jan, So sorry to have kept you waiting for my answer. All summer I haven't worked much on genealogy. I did get a copy of Seth Russell's pension application dated 10-12-1871, claim No. 7373, but not the certificate No. 6661. However, the application did not give me his parents. It did tell me he married Lavina Parker Jan. 3, 1807 in Middletown, Rutland County, VT. This county ID assumes Middletown became Middletown Springs. He was born about Oct. 12, 1791, and died after Oct. 12, 1871, supposedly in Chester, Warren County, NY. Since he enlisted from Ira, Rutland, VT, he may have been born there. I've been hoping he was the brother of Lucy Russell, but have no proof of this. It's Lucy I'm really interested in. She would be my great-great-great grandmother. I didn't know how to proceed to get Seth's parents and rest of his family. I did check out the LDS Film on the vital records of Ira, but didn't find anything there. This suspicion came from "History of Ira, VT" by S. L. Peck, 1926, who said a man named Russell lived across the river near or in Ira. Thanks for your interest. Martha Parker
