I have a Joseph Ellis married Hannah Fisher, daughter of Daniel Fisher (1752-1820) and Hannah (1756-1843). Joseph Ellis was born c1772, died June 27, 1849 and is buried in Newfane Hill Cemetery, Newfane, VT. His wife, Hannah Fisher, was born in Newfane in 1780, died Sept 16, 1836 and also is buried in Newfane Hill Cemetery. Could this be the Ellis family you are looking for?
Thanks alot. The names I am mainly interested are from Halifax and Newfane, Vermont: Wheeler and Clark-Cyrus Wheeler and James and Hannah Clark, Nathan and Samuel Clark. Any help will be very much appreciated. Jean

[Greenfield is just south of Halifax]; Allen, Samuel and Nathaniel. Not sure how they were related, or who they were, or where they went to. I've been researching Nathan Nichols who lived in Bernardston, Franklin County MA in the same Rev War time period. [Bernardston is also just south of Halifax]. Suspect Nathan of Bernardston and Nathaniel of Greenfield may be the same man. Earliest deed for Nathan Nichols for the purchase of land in Greenfield says Nathan Nichols "of Middletown, Hartford County MA". Wish I had more info. Supsect that Allen, Samuel and Nathan/Nathaniel were brothers.

Think I posted that wrong the first try--here it is again... I'm going to be in Westminster, VT in about a week (9/5-6/2001) and wanted to check out the cemeteries in the area for my Holden ancestors. Specifically, Stephen Holden (b. 1745, d. 1821 at Westminster West?, VT) and his wife Martha (Wasson) Holden. They are my gggg-grandparents thru their son, John (his son, Elijah; then James Francis, then Sidney Francis, then James Vernon, then me). I noticed that on the website there is a Holden cemetery & I was wondering if this is where they are buried. Does anyone happen to know specific locations(directions to) of cemeteries where any Holdens are buried. If not, can you direct me to someone who has this info. I have the Holden Genealogy, Vol. I & II, but cemetery names/locations are not in it. Would appreciate any help you could give.... thanks so much Sally Holden Dyson [email protected]

Hello, This is my first post to the Windham Co. mailing list. I live in Louisiana, a long way from Windham County, VT. My ggggg grandparents were DANIEL FISHER (b. 1752-Milford, Worcester Co., MA, d. 1820-Newfane, Windham Co., VT) and HANNAH (probably SADLER)(b. 1756, d. Jan 2, 1843-Newfane) Daniel was living in Townshend in 1774 when he married Hannah. They were farming near Newfane by 1775. Daniel Fisher raised a great deal of corn (approximately 1000 acres) and thereby acquired the nickname 'Corn' Fisher. Their children were Daniel Fisher Jr (b. 1776, m. Milliscent Durren - not sure of spelling); Simon Fisher (b. 1781-Newfane, d. 1830-Newfane, married 1. Nancy Wood/Woods, 2. Mary Morse, 3. Mary Crosby); Hannah Fisher (married ? Ellis); and Lydia Fisher (married ? Henney). Sometime after the death of Daniel Fisher Sr. in 1820, Hannah married Abram Holland. Four generation of my Fisher ancestors lived in Windham Co.: Daniel Fisher > Simon Fisher > George W. Fisher (b. 1800-Newfane, d. 1877- Newfane, married Laurinda Kennan) > Chesselden Fisher, MD (b. 1822-Putney, d. 1892-Grayson Co., Texas). I do not know where any of these ancestors are buried except Chesselden, however I noticed that there is a Fisher Cemetery in Townshend. Does anyone have a listing of the people buried there? Does anyone connect with any of these Vermont families or know anything about any of them? Thanks for the help. Betty
I have several ancestors from Massachusetts who were married at Halifax, VT. It appears that there was an establishment on the Halifax/Colrain border that was quite popular for marriages. I assume that Massachusetts couples were married in the Halifax part of the building, and Vermont couples were married in the Colrain part. Does anyone have more information about this establishment? Are these marriages part of the vital records of Halifax? Two of the Marriage Records I'm trying to find are: Abner B ALDEN & Emma Caroline RANNEY on June 1, 1850 Samuel E EDDY & Sarah D TODD on July 3, 1849 Thanks, Syl in Florida
