Hello Windham County friends, I need help on two separate fronts. 1. According to my records, my gggg grandfather, Simon FISHER (born 1781 in Newfane, Windham Co., VT) drowned in an accident in the West River on July 31, 1830. Is there a West River in the vicinity of Newfane? I am hoping to locate an obituary or news article about this accident. Can anyone tell me about local newspapers being published in 1830? 2. My gg grandfather, Chesselden FISHER, (grandson of the above Simon Fisher) was born in Windham Co. VT on May 7, 1822. He graduated from medical school in Vermont in 1846. By 1850, he had moved alone to Snyder Co., PA where he married my gg grandmother, Jane WAREHAM/WAREHEIM and continued his medical practice. I recently found a record of a first wife that I did not know existed. Her tombstone in Newfane Village Cemetery reads "Mary A. R. FISHER, wife of Dr. Chesselden Fisher, died January 21, 1848, age 21 years". She is buried in the same plot in Newfane Village Cemetery as Chesselden FISHER's parents, George FISHER and Laurinda KENNAN, and several of Chesselden's siblings. I would like to find out more about this first wife such as her surname, when they married and the names of any children they might have had. If anyone has access to Windham County (probably Newfane or Townshend) marriage records for the few years prior to 1848, I would really appreciate a lookup for a date of this marriage and the bride's surname. Thanks so much. Betty Shreveport, Louisiana
