    1. [VTWINDHA] Abner/James/Pardon Allen - VT/CT/MA - Help :-)
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Allen Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2AC.2ACI/1360 Message Board Post: I descend from Abner Allen. I have been desperately trying to fit my Abner Allen into a family. I just spent two days at the Family History Library in Salt Lake going through books to piece this puzzle together and I am still not any closer :-( Abner Allen married Lucy Brooks. Several databases on the web say Abner was born in Pomfret, CT. Though he is often referred to as Abner Allen of Sturbridge (he married there and grew up there.) And,. I also have him listed as being born in Windham County, Vermont. So who knows :-) Abner's daughter, Lucurita married Abner Tyler. In the Job Tyler book it says that Lucurita was a descendant of James Allen of Medfield (which would be Sturbridge if I understand correctly) I have his death record from an online source (death date 1839) and if IT is to be believed, Abner would have been born in 1754. I am assuming this is his record because it states his wife's name is Lucy. The Abner that fits into the James Allen of Medfield line is listed as being born 1743. I am starting to wonder if there were two Abner Allen's married to women named Lucy living in the same area of MA? It's possible when looking up records, to have assumed it was OUR Abner they were talking about with that 1839 death date making him born in 1754 (according to his age at death.) There were several Abners born around the same time (5-10 years) in MA and it's not unlikely another one might have married a Lucy. At this point, All I know for sure is Pardon Allen was the son of Abner Allen and Lucy Brooks. He was my 5th great grandfather. I want to fit my Abner into a family but I just can't. I made a lot of copies in Salt Lake, including an entire book on records in Sturbridge that didn't offer me any hep when I looked at them closely. I still don't have any definite answers. Lucy and Abner had Pardon and (and maybe Tilley). Both fairly odd names. I really AM at a loss. I'm fairly convinced the problem lies in 2 Abners being living in the same area with wives named Lucy. In one of the books it says Abner and Lucy had Pardon, Tilley and Lucretia. Born 1785-1789. THEN there is another reference to Abner 2 and Lucy having a child named Lucy in 1800. Listing him as Abner 2 makes me think he's different than my Abner. I have Lucy listed as one of their children just in case but I don't think she was. Another book on the Brooks line says that Abner was from CT. I am completely lost and I would sincerely appreciate any advice anyone can give me :-) Thanks for your time, Chris

    2. I've never done it, but I think if you go to www.vitalrec.com and get info on the various court districts, you can find out the address of the appropriate district probate court. All I would know is to write the court. One such address is: Marlboro District Probate Court, West River Road/ P.O. Box 523, Brattleboro, VT 05302. Phone 802-257-2898. Hours M-F 8-12, 1-4:30. I don't know if this is the proper one for your inquiry or not. Martha Parker
