My ancestor, Nathan Howard and wife, Betsey, lived in Jamaica, Windham county, in the early 1800's. Their children Jane and Subinus were born in Jamaica in 1819 and 1824 respectively. Nathan was born 1771and Betsey was born 1787. I don't know who their parents were, but I would like to find out. The family moved to western NY sometime between 1830 and 1840. In a gazeteer from the late 1880's I found several Howards living in the Jamaica area so it looks like they have been in the area for a long time. Does anyone have any information that could help? Nathan did not have a death certificate, as he died in 1868. He was buried in NY.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Emery, Burnap, Cole, Pettey Classification: Death Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2AC.2ACI/1572 Message Board Post: From the Waterloo (Wi) Courier Sept. 11, 1891 At the home of her daughter in the town of York, Wednesday morning, Sept. 8th, 1891, Mrs. Sophia Stearns passed from this life. Mrs. Stearns has always been a healthy and active women and her death was a surprise to all. On the morning of her death, she was apparently as strong as usual, but in going into her bedroom, she fell as if in a faint. She was assisted onto her bed, where a few moments later she was a corpes. Hers was an exemplary life. She had always been active in upholding the doctrine taught by the Congregational Church. She was born in Vermont in 1803 and lived with her parents until 1829 when she was united in marriage to David. E. Emery. A short time afterward they moved to New York City which place had been their home for quite a number of years. Concluding that the west offered better inducements, in 1841 they migrated westward and settled on a farm near Lake Mills, and in 1844 they moved onto the farm in the town of York now owned by W.H. Cole. Ten years l! ater her husband died and she and her children continued to reside at the same place. Her children having all got married, about eighteen years ago, she went back to her old home in Vermont and a short time afterwards was united in marriage to a man named Stearns, who died two years ago. Last March she came back here and had since lived with her daughter, Mrs. W.H. Cole. Two daughters, Mrs. W.H. Cole, and Mrs. Abner Pettey, and one son, Levy Emery are left to mourn her loss. Her only son arrived here the evening after her burial. The funeral services were held at M.E. Church 2pm Wednesday, Rev. Ferris of the Columbus Congregational Church officiating, after which the remains were laid to rest in the village cemetery. ------------------------------ Sophia Stearns was born Sophia Burnap, daughter of John Burnap and Candace Bliss of Windham County Vermont.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/2AC.2ACI/1570.1 Message Board Post: According to Dover (Wardsboro) VT VR: Elezer and Levina Jones had children: Betcy (b. Aug 15, 1794); Sally (b. Jun 17, 1797); Elezer, Jr. (b. Jul 23, 1799); Levinah (b. Feb 16, 1801, d. Aug 23, 1802); Maryann (b. Aug 6, 1803), Emmora (b. Mar 2, 1805); and Levinah (2) (b. May 5, 1807). It is my belief that "Emmora" was a spelling distortion of Emory (Emery).Elezer (Eleazer, Eleazur) Jones (b. abt 1763) was the son of Bezaleel Jones [(b. Nov 20, 1736, in Medway, MA; bp. Jan 2, 1737 in Holliston, MA) (MVR to 1850); NEHGR Oct 1895:446], who married second Jun 23, 1762, in Hopkinton, MA Martha Russell (b. Feb 1, 1738/9 in Lexington, MA), daughter of Eliezer Russell and Tabitha Prentice. Bezaleel Jones was the son of Benjamin Jones, who is said to have been b. abt 1695/1705, possibly in Middlesex Co., MA, and to have died before May 10, 1757, in Upton, Worcester Co., MA. Benjamin is said to have married about 1730 Ruth [Taylor] and had 9 children, including Bezaleel. Bezaleel Jones married his first wife, Mary Nutting, in Mendon, and his children were born in Medway, Holliston, and Uxbridge, MA. The identity of Benjamin's parents is unknown. However, Abraham Jones (Abraham4, John3, Abraham2, Thomas1) was born in Mendon, MA, May 3, 1747, and died Dec 1, 1816, in Dover, VT; his brother, John (b. Mar 12, 1743/4) (and wife Abigail) were dismissed from the church in Milford, MA, to Wardsboro, VT, in 1791. Given the connection of these Jones family members with both Mendon and to Wardsboro (Dover) (Abraham and John removed to Wardsboro around 1790/1800), it stands to reason that they are related to Benjamin (who apparently did not leave MA) and his son Bezaleel's family in both MA and VT.

While in the print screen mode you can also use your browser to find a surname... or a church name, & etc., - -> click on the "Edit, Find (on this page)," and fill in the surname you are looking for, make sure case sensitive is not checked hope this helps! ---- Msg sent via CWNet - http://www.cwnet.com/
