Surnames: Manning Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1AC.2ACI/1738 Message Board Post: Looking for information on Michael Manning, born abt. 1845. Parents were Daniel Manning and Honora Mahoney (Mahanna), both born abt. 1815 in Ireland. Had siblings John (b. abt. 1847), Mary (b. abt. 1849), Daniel (b. abt. 1851), Timothy (b. abt. 1852), and David, my great-grandfather (b. June 24, 1855). Nothing known of David's siblings except that some of them 'went West', never to be heard from again. By 1870, only Daniel and Honora and son David remain in Duxbury. I have found a Michael Manning in the 1870, 1880, and 1900 censuses, living in nearby Waterbury: 1870 Mark C Canerdy, 41, butcher Louisa M Canerdy, 41, keeping house Lucius Morse, 36, works in meat market Mary Morse, 34, boarder Michael Manning, 24 yo, meat peddler; place of birth: Vermont John McMullen, 22, meat peddler Bridget Cully, 18, housekeeper 1880 Michael Manning, 35, keeps meat market; place of birth: Ireland Emma Manning, 29, wife, keeping house Henry Smith, 18, servant, errand boy Mark C Canerdy, 52, boarder, works in meat market Louisa M Canerdy, 52, boarder 1900 Mark Canerdy, 71 Michael Manning, 55 (Aug 1844), lodger, salesman; place of birth: Ireland; year of immigration: 1848 Emma Manning, 48 (June 1851), servant, housekeeper; mother of one child, none surviving Ada M. Woodward, 21, servant, milliner He also appears in the 1887-8 Montpelier, Barre, Waterbury And Northfield Directory: Manning, M. - butcher - h(ouse) - Main (Street) - Waterbury. A separate entry lists a property on Park Row, probably where the meat market was located. Is this Michael the son of Daniel and Honora??? Probably, but need confirmation. Any info would be appreciated.
