Also, October 3, Mrs. Eliza PAGE, wife of John L. POPE, aged 65 years. Mr. and Mrs. POPE were each worthy members of the Congregational church. In Barre, October 19, L. C. WHEELOCK, Esq., a member of the Washington County Bar, aged 51 years and 9 months. Esquire WHEELOCK was the only son of Welcome WHEELOCK, late of Calais, where the writer became acquainted with him, at his father's house, when he was a young lad, thirty-six years ago. He was then an industrious and studious boy, and as he grew to manhood, he continued to school himself, and when of lawful age he commenced school-teaching, in which he was very successful. He was introduced into Barre village soon after he was twenty-one, to teach the village school, and has made his home here ever since. He read law, and was admitted to the Washington County Bar at the spring term in 1852. In a very short time he was able, by his own industry and economy, to purchase the property of the late Esquire KINSMAN, and by perseverance and faithfulness in his profession, he has accumulated a large property and been successful in the world. In this success he had the aid of his amiable companion, who was a help-meet indeed, and who is now quite sick. He leaves two children (a son and daughter) to mourn his loss with his bereaved companion. Mr. WHEELOCK and Miss Annette GOLDSBURY (his widow) were married May 4th, 1857. May the Lord restore her to health again, for the beloved children's sake, for the sake of a dear, venerable mother, and brothers, and friends, and for the blessing of the community. Mr. WHEELOCK was a man of remarkable temperate habits, great industry and perseverance, and had achieved an honorable position in society, and at the bar. His ability consisted more in preparing his cases thoroughly, and in successful collecting, then in making great arguments. Fifteen members of the bar, mostly from Montpelier were in attendance at the funeral services, Tuesday, from the place of his residence. The services were very brief, because of the sickness and suffering of the widow. L. WARREN. LEGAL NOTICES.
