I'm heading to Vermont Wednesday for a couple of days to hunt for my great-great grandmother's burial place and her children. All I have is a death date and place - Ellen M. THOMPSON died January 29, 1876 in Greensboro. I sure could use some/any/all suggestions on what cemeteries I might check.I'm not familiar with what's in that area and not sure where to begin. Any help would be more than appreciated. Thanks - have a great day.... Francis actually died of smallpox. It was a big problem at the time, as Ben put off getting the new vaccine that was being suggested at the time. He became an advocate of the vaccine after that. Ben did have a huge family. He was the eighth child of his mom and 15th of his father, by what I read and there were more born after Ben. You would think that finding the connection for Sally to Ben wouldn't be that difficult, seeing how important Ben was. I'm not sure how to go about it though. I thought reading these biographies would give me more, but it gets very confusing. He was an amazing person though.

Since she married a Franklin then the connection continued through one of Ben's brothers. Ben Franklin had something like 15 siblings. Ben was never legally married, but did have 2 sons. One who drowned.

How could she be from a maternal side with the last name of Franklin? I have just read a few biographies of Benjamin Franklin and must admit I got lost with his family. He did have a second cousin Sally Franklin, Ben's Father's brother's great granddaughter, but she would have been born 1755 according to the books making her birth date wrong to marry Francis Everett. There are probably other Sally Franklins as names were used over and over in families. Ben was married to Deborah Read on 9/1/1730, common law. She was unable to officially marry him as she was married to someone who fled the country with high debt and was later thought to be dead, but there was prison for anyone at that time who married when already married.

First, there was an Ira Alger, born about 1795, who settled in "Canada East" (Quebec). He was the son Nathaniel and Mary (Owen) Alger. Nathaniel was born in Killingly, CT and died in Richmond, VT. They had nine children: Nathaniel, Joseph, David, James, Ira, Auel, Truman, Allen and Leonard. Allen and Ira were twins. I wonder if he was your Ira's father, or perhaps his twin Allen, who also went to Canada East. I also have a disconnected Percy Alger of Stanstead who married Ellen ____ and had a son Lucius abt 1845. He might be connected to one of these families.

They had 7 children that were born in Canada, Indiana, Minnesota, Iowa. They moved a lot. Ira had more than one wife. Can't recall the others names, but would gladly work to help other researchers of this family. Ira finally died in South Dakota about 1909.
