(WENTWORTH) HILL are: Born: 18 Apr 1827, Montpelier?, VT Sources: (1) Age 38y-9m-22d at 9 Feb 1866 death per memorial written by daughter Betsy; (2) Maiden name WENTWORTH from daughter Carrie’s birth certificate and other records and from burial records; (3) Birth location Montpelier per Carrie’s birth certificate; (4) Nathaniel Wentworth’s 5 Apr 1859 will names Eri HILL (Mary’s husband) as the executor and makes bequests only to Eri, Mary and their children. Died: 9 Feb 1866, Childbed, Worcester, VT. In the death record from the town of Worcester the far right column headed "Parents" has the entry J. COLBY. Buried: North Branch Cemetery, Middlesex, Washington, VT Married: Eri HILL, of Middlesex, VT, abt 1845. I've suspected for some time that Mary may have been adopted or may have taken the name of WENTWORTH when maybe living with Nathaniel & Betsy WENTWORTH. Does anyone have any information on a J. COLBY who might have been living in the Montpelier area in 1827 who might have had my Mary E.??? Any help would be much appreciated. Regards, Bob

Surnames: BURLEY-BURLEIGH & WHITNEY Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/1AC.2ACI/1813 Message Board Post: I was wondering if anyone could find the marriage of Julius H. Whitney to Lucy Ann Burley/Burleigh. I have a marriage for them at Waterbury, VT on April 3, but no year--maybe about 1870ish--not sure (??). Also, Julius Whitney died in 1920 and is buried at Maple Street Cemetery in Waterbury, and so is his wife, Lucy Ann (Burley/Burleigh) Whitney, but there is no date of death on Lucy's grave stone. I am wondering if anyone could tell me (or find out) when she died. I know it was after 1920 and most likely at Waterbury. I tried to find Lucy in the 1930 Census at Waterbury, but the quality of the online census images for this town was terrible, and I could not read the census pages. Lucy Ann Burley/Burleigh was b. 1852/53 at Stowe, VT. Any help/information appreciated. Thank you.

She married Daniel Damon NELSON 27 Nov 1884 in Middlesex, Washington, VT, son of Algernon NELSON and Orlinda MOORE. He was born 21 Sep 1856 in Calais, Washington, VT, and died 25 Mar 1941 in Methuen, Essex, MA. x. Baby HILL, b. 9 Aug 1862, Worcester, Washington, VT; d. 6 Sep 1862, Worcester, Washington, VT. xi. Emma L. HILL, b. 10 Jun 1863, Worcester, Washington, VT; d. 1944, Montpelier, Washington, VT; m. Orvis A. SAWYER, 13 Nov 1880, Middlesex, Washington, VT; b. 185437; d. 1924, Montpelier, Washington, VT Any additional information on this Hill family would be most appreciated. Nathaniel WENTWORTH was born abt Aug 1792 in Thornton, Grafton, NH, and died 8 Jun 1864 in Worcester, Washington, VT. He married (date unknown) Elizabeth (Betsy) EDGERLY, daughter of James EDGERLY and Temperance KNIGHT. She was born 27 Jun 1798 in Northwood/Woodstock, NH, and died 1859 - 1864 in ?East Constable, NY. I can’t find a death record for her yet, but she probably died in East Constable, NY between 5 Apr 1859 (Date of Nathaniel’s will written in Constable, NY which has her as beneficiary) and 1864 (date of Nathaniel’s death - she wasn’t included at probate of his will and is not buried with him at the North Branch Cemetery in Middlesex, VT. The WENTWORTH Genealogy says that she died childless. Eri HILL was the executor of Nathaniel’s will and the will bequeaths everything to Eri, Mary and their children. One item to note, the will doesn’t say “my daughter Mary” or “my grandchildrenA6” I haven’t been able to find any other children for! Nathaniel - but who are the children in the census data? The only census data that I’ve been able to find on Nathaniel so far doesn’t seem to help much. In the 1830 Vermont Census - Washington County - p361 - Nathaniel Wentworth had the following in his household: males: 1=10-15; 1=30-40 females: 1=10-15; 1=20-30; 1=40-50. If Mary was his daughter she should have shown as a female under 5 and she doesn’t. If Betsy was his wife at this time there should be a female age 30-40 and there isn’t. Also, who are the other children? In the 1840 Vermont Census - Washington County - Nathaniel Wentworth, Middlesex, (p316), had the following in his household: males: 1=5-10; 1=10-15; 1=40-50 females: 1=10-15; 1=40-50; 1=80-90. Both Mary and Betsy would fit into these age ranges, but who were the other children? The older woman may be his mother Elizabeth (LIBBY) WENTWORTH (wife of Moses WENTWORTH who died at Nathaniel’s home in Middlesex on 27 May 1850 according to the Wentworth Genealogy. I’ve been unable to locate any other census data for Nathaniel so far. I’m hoping that someone can help me solve this puzzle. Was Nathaniel WENTWORTH the father of Mary (WENTWORTH) HILL? Was she adopted? Was she another WENTWORTH relative’s child whose parents died and Nathaniel raised her? Who was her mother? If Nathaniel had other children by another wife, why was nothing left to them in his will? Any and all help would be much appreciated. Regards, Bob
