Listed in the book entitled "Bulletin of Whatcom Genealogical Society, Early Settlers of Whatcom County Natives of Vermont", page 34, (US/CAN 979.773 Bw2) located at Mormon Archives, Salt Lake, UT. According to an article prepared by Elsie Worthen Mock and Elva Carey Worthen for Clam Diggers, November 8, 1980, Charles lived on a farm in West Charleston, Vermont for many years. In 1905 he moved to Whatcom County, Washington where he farmed for a few years at the corner of the Kammand-Northwood Road, just south of the old Indian Cemetery. He later moved to Lynden, Washington, and built a large home on the corner of Second and Grover Street, which in more recent years was torn down to make way for apartments. He was not entitled to be a Clam Digger on his own, but his family was. He had twelve children, seven boys and five girls, and of these, five sons and two daughters lived in Whatcom County before he did. A third daughter, Viola, came five years later and lived there for twenty years. AB: Unfortunetly, I have no information about Charles' and Lucy's marriage. Hi, Was hoping someone could help me. A Francis ATWELL and Hiram ATWELL are listed as being buried in the Old Waterbury Center Cemetery. I was wondering if anyone might have the "Waterbury Cemetery Inscriptions Washington County Vermont" book so they could do a look up for me on what's there on these individuals? I don't know if that is the only Hiram Atwell listed in the index of the book, just know he is the only Hiram Atwell listed on the Rootsweb Vermont "Old Waterbury Center Cemetery" page as being in the book's index. If the book has two Hiram Atwells I'd be interested in knowing about both of them and a Rachel Atwell. Hiram Atwell was married to Rachel SCAGEL. Their son Hiram died in 1834, then Rachel in 1843 after bearing another son Francis who died several days thereafter, and then Hiram Sr. died abt 1849. Don't know whether it's Hiram Sr. or Jr. who is buried alongside Francis. And am wondering where the mother Rachel Scagel Atwell is buried, as her parents, George and Rachel SCAGEL, both appear to be buried in Old Waterbury Cemetery, listed in the same index page as Hiram and Francis Atwell. Thanks. Would appreciate any help with this. Juli
