Surnames: CHASE, TUCKER, SPAULDING, Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1AC.2ACI/678.1.1 Message Board Post: Hello, 12/7/2003 I have been tracing backwards the history of my family. The Chase Family were quite numerous in Waitsfield, Vermont. According to The History of the Town of Cornish, NH that was released and is on the www, written by Thomas Chase in 4/ 2003. Thomas Chase ( Wells, Moses, Aquila ) was born in Amesbury, Mass on May 14, 1735. Married in Chester, Ma to Mary Hall in 1758 and then settled in Salisbury, Mass. They then moved to Cornish, NH where he died in 1807. The first 7 of his children were born in Salisbury, Mass and the rest in Cornish, NH. Thomas & his wife Mary Hall Chase had 11 children. It is known that at least 4 of his children moved to Waitsfield, Vermont - directly or not. They were: 1. Moses Chase ( 1758 - ? ) married Hannah Spaulding ( sister to Abel) In Revolution he served under Col & later Gen. Stark's Reg't from 1777 - 1780. Moses & Hannah had 4 children that were all born in Cornish, NH Their names were: Henry, Hannah, Moses & Judah. 2. William Chase ( 1762 - 1853 ). ( Both Moses & William were Veterans of the Revolutionary War. ) Wliiam had 3 wives, which I believe were: Martha Tucker ( married in abt.1787 & Content ( who was listed with him in Westfield, Chautaugua Co., NY as being admitted into the First Presbyterian Church in 1833 ). I do not know who his 3rd wife was?. He was in Chautaugua County, NY from at least 1832 - 1844 - when he moved to Waitfield, VT. descended from this line, but it is very difficult. His papers do not list any wives or children, and therefore it's difficult putting the pieces together. But I do know that he had at least these children: 1. William M. Chase -(1795 - 1880 ) 2. Martha Chase & possibly 2 others 3. Hannah Chase ( 1769 - 1832 ) who married Abel Spaulding, a brother to Moses Chases wife Hannah Spaulding. How long was she in Waitfield, VT? She died in Delaware, Ohio. 4. Thomas Chase ( 1774 -1828 ) married Betsey -? @ Waitsfield, VT Can anyone please help me with this family - especially William Chase.? It will be greatly appreciated !!!! Sincerely, Laurie Laurie Stewart Tokarsky laurst@attglobal.net

    1. [VTWASHIN] "History of My Generation in Cabot, Vermont, 1874-1951", by Fred Blaney Blodgett. added to the Gateway to Vermont Web Site
    2. Karima
    3. Good Evening, The following excerpt is from the "History of My Generation in Cabot, Vermont, 1874-1951", by Fred Blaney Blodgett, January 16, 1951, which I have just uploaded, to the Gateway to Vermont Web Site "When I was a small boy in Cabot and the time approached for the celebration of the one hundredth anniversary of the town. I recall that there was a move underway for having someone compile a history of the town. The record shows that at the annual March meeting in 1881 a sum of money was voted for this purpose and John M. Fisher was engaged to carry out the project. About this time, it would appear that other towns in the county, having been settled about the same time, were making a move in the same direction. These were gathered together and published in a large volume known as Hemmenway's Gazetteer, edited and published by Abbie M. Hemmenway. I find this volume in the Aldrich Public Library in Barre. It would seem from a final word by Mr. Fisher that she aided and assisted him in the preparation of this history. The history of the town of Cabot, as I first knew it, was published in a paper bound volume of about one hundred pages and sold to those who desired a copy. We had one in our home but I do not know what became of it. Probably there are some copies still in existence about town. As I recall, Mr. Fisher dates the completion of his narrative as of July 1881. Since the town was settled in 1783, it was thus undertaken two years previous to the one-hundredth anniversary of the town. "I am probably one of a few of those now living who were present at the celebration of this event. There may be published accounts in existence, but I know of no such and shall proceed to narrate such recollections of it, as I can recall, and I have quite a vivid memory of the day." This wonderful article has been submitted by Amanda Sessel Legare, president of the Cabot Historical Society The article is accessible from the main gateway page, by clicking on the gold "Latest additions" button (located in the middle of the page): http://www.rootsweb.com/~vermont/VERMONTGATEWAY.html Best wishes and good luck with your search . . . and many thanks to Amanda Sessel Legare!
