Joseph Smith (circa 1737-1796) was born in RI, married Sarah __________, moved to VT, lived and operated an inn at Otter Creek, was a Green Mt Boy. His children were: John Smith, also a Green Mt. Boy,  married Sarah Fitch 1783 and died 1786, leaving widow and children Thomas and Ruth Smith Ruth Smith, married Jabez Weaver and moved to New York Sarah Smith, married John Bowman Will trade info! Hello: Just wondering if your Vermont Smiths might be any relation to any of my Vermont Smiths. Where is Otter Creek? I can find no municipality by that name on any of the maps I have? My Smiths are basically from western Rutland County starting with Levi possibly born Canada, died Mt. Holly, Vt. married Mary A. ? had three known children, Elizabeth G. b:1857; George Henry b:Jan 3, 1859 Benson, Vt. d: June 18, 1937 Shrewsbury Vt.; and Mary b: July 4, 1861West Haven, Vt. d: June 15, 1942, Benson, Vt. Elizabeth m: Adelbert Fish and had two known children, Hellena and Allen. George Henry had six sons; William Henry, George Wellington, Andrew Raymond (Ray), Charles LeRoy(Roy), Virgil, Kenneth Erwin, who lived and owned property in many of the local western Rutland Co. townships. As far as I know it is just a Creek. I know it runs through Pittsford. I don't know where else it flows. In 1991 I stood on the bridge and looked the water rushing by. I think I was on the bridge.
