    1. [VTRUT] 1891--Rutland Area Police Reports
    2. Source, Rutland Daily Herald--Tue. May 5, 1891. WITH THE POLICE. A West Rutland Man Hurls a Bottle at Conductor Dougherty's Head. John Groonell, of West Rutland, was locked up at the house of correction early last evening by Deputy Sheriff Fish on a charge of intoxication. He went to Whitehall on the 1 o'clock train, got gloriously drunk and returned on the train due here at 5 o'clock, which was over an hour behind time. Deputy Sheriff Fish was on the train, and but for his presence Groonell would probably have made trouble Conductor Dougherty. He had a few words with the conductor as he left the train at West Rutland, and as the latter pulled away from the depot platform Groonell hurled an empty bottle at Conductor Dougherty's head, but it missed the mark. The train was stopped and Deputy Fish took the fellow in charge, bringing him to Rutland. He will probably have a hearing in West Rutland today. B. Moore. The result was that the prisoner was fined $5 and costs for intoxication and $20 for breach of the peace, amounting to $39.02 He disclosed on the West Rutland town liquor agent, whose case will be investigated today. OFFICER ELWORTH'S ARREST. Officer Elworth arrested Henry Gavin last evening on a warrant charging him with intoxication. He pleaded guilty before Justice Mann and was fined $5 and costs.
