My grandfathers (greats implied) were adventurers. They began in Litchfield,Conn-- Asa (1717-1792). He obtained (I use the word loosly)a good portion of present day eastern NY and western Mass land. Present day Columbia Co NY. and Rensselaer NY and Berkshire Co. Mass. I have the notice from Boston Evening post newspaper making him an agent for the Mohekanuck/Stockbridge Indians. Now when you get into the History of Vermont, towns of Tabor, Cabot, Bennington, Brandon(present day) they acquired alot of that area. I have history of those towns which mentions Douglas's first settlers. Brandon,VT is the home of Stephen A. Douglas who ran against Abe Lincoln. Stephen is a gggggreat uncle to me. Stephens' grandpa and mine was Asa Douglas (1715-1792). Stephen is going through Benjamin and I am going through Benjamin's brother Asa (1739-1812). Confusing when they all have so many places that they were involved in. What I am looking for is proof that Asa Douglas (1739-1812) had a son named John Douglas (1772-1842), who moved to Vermont in about 1798, married Sybill Merrill there and had 7 children there, before moving to Penn. in 1812. Any little bit is a help for me to try to prove to DAR my linage. They want, and I agree, proof. Thanks Joan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
