(I found no Gavin in the 1880 census for Rutland County, but a 22-year-old, Vermont-born, single woman named Mary Garvin was living on the Rutland poor farm in June of 1880. Also listed on the poor farm was an infant named Bridget Garvin who had been born in February to a Vermont-born mother and an Irish father.)
