    1. Re: Fw: [VTRUTLAN] Jonathan Jones of Benson , VT
    2. Janet , Are you the JONES cousin who lives in Paris ? I just got an email from a lady who will check the Benson , VT cemetery listings. Hope she has some answers for me / us . Here is some information I found on Comfort PETERS , at the Ft. Wayne , IN library . History of Bradford County , Pennsylvania 1770-1878 by The Reverend Mr. David CRAFT ( 1992 reprint edition ) ( Original printed 1878 ) p. 303 Column two, 7th paragraph In 1808 , Deacon Asa HOWE , took up a farm near Helen Budd's , and gave the locality the name of Howe Hollow thereby. Comfort PETERS settled on the Pettibone farm the same year , and Sheldon GIBBS came in 1809 to the same neighborhood . Both of these men were basket-makers , and peddled their wares through the country roundabout , even as far away as Owego. For this reason the road on which they lived was called Basket street , ans still retains its early cognomen , and it the road leading from C.H. BALLARD's to Austinville. Phineas JONES came in about the year 1808. He was a brother of Mrs. Comfort PETERS , and came from the same locality. He removed in 1818 into central New York. End. Pioneer and Patriot Families of Bradford County , Pennsylvania 1800-1825 by Clement F. HEVERLY p. 142 Last entry on this page . Comfort PETERS , who enlisted in the Revolutionary was at Douglass , Mass., came to Columbia township in 1808. He was a noted basket-maker and supplied a wide section of country with his handiwork. In 1830 he sold to Daniel GREGORY and returned East ; died April 9 , 1833 at Swansey , N.H. , aged 78. Comfort S. GENEBETH and Wilmot PETERS were evidently his sons. p. 226 JONES - Asa , Phineas and Stephen JONES settled in Columbia in or before 1812 . Phineas was a brother of Mrs. Comfort PETERS ( p. 142 ) . The JONESES sold in 1818 and removed to Central New York. End . Charity's older brother , Phineas died in Conquest , Cayuga Co, NY & if I remember correctly , this is where Charity ended up living out her life. But as you can see , by the above source , Comfort PETERS died in NH. I haven't found the information that says Comfort's widow filed for a pension , but it was denied , as Charity was still alive & still married to him. When I come across it , I will email it to you. Cousin Brenda
