Conductor Wood was fatally injured, and about twenty others injured. Later Particulars Troy, NY, June 2 - When the Delaware and Hudson train No. 4., due in Whitehall at 2:20 o'clock to-day, was near Hydeville, Vt., one coach, the rear one, ran off the track and down an embankment, completely overturning. Seven passengers and Conductor Edward Wood were hurt. Conductor Wood's injuries are serious and he will probably die. The injured persons were taken to Hydeville, and wrecking trains were sent from Rutland and Whitehall to clear the track. The wreck was cleared in less than two hours. Conductor Wood was removed to Rutland were his home is. The other injured persons were only slightly bruised and cut. (This may have been Edward S. Wood, a railroad conductor listed as living in Rutland in 1880, age 29. Wife was Anna; children were Jennie, Mary, and Charles.)
