Jim, As I read your query, I had a thought that perhaps the name might have been Menard, a French Canadian name. My husband had a 2nd great grandmother whose surname was said to be Manor and it turned out to be Menard back in Canada. These people lived in the Salisbury and Middlebury area of the state.
