Source, Rutland Daily Herald--Fri.May 22, 1891. MUNICIPAL COURT. George Gates was brought before Judge Butler yesterday and given eight months in the house of correction for stealing $31 from John Fostl, an Italian who roomed with Gates in Fair Haven. Gates' home is in Middletown Springs, and some time ago he deserted his family and eloped with another man's wife. He turned up in Fair Haven and as soon as he had a good chance skipped with his room-mate's money. He was traced to Schenectady (N.Y) and arrested there and papers obtained, and he was brought back to Fair Haven and put in jail. He was unable to get bail, so made application for sentence. He pleaded guilty before Judge Butler yesterday and received a sentence of eight months in the house of correction. State's Attorney Preston appeared for the state. Transcribed by, Joan H. Bixby
