Do you know, with one little sentence, you may be back to Poultney/Hampton again??? 'But he said he had been told that we were descended from Rev. Thos Hooker.' Though I'm still convinced that the MA Daniel Hooker figures into this 'saga'. What follows is a letter sent to the daughter of the SE Hooker that Jean just mentioned in her Poultney cemetery ref. it is only part of a letter and I cannot find the original I transcribed it from. But, just as the Samuel Porus I wrote you about before, this family can trace back to the Rev Thomas, or so they say. It almost sounds like this Rev. Thomas Hooker was a name that people liked to use as an ancestor. Here in this discussion we've found 3 separate families who all say they descended from him. Generally, I've found that letters such as this are quite reliable. Jan 29, 1905 Dear Elfleda, In yours of 22nd you say you want to know who you are. Daniel Hooker, son of Thomas and born Sunday Aug. 2, 1795. married Orpha Giddings, Tuesday Feb. 28, AD 1828. [That's all there was.] Also, I did notice the Chester/Helen- mentioned it was in the census for Saratoga. So you've ruled out the Stephen Shattuck Hooker. I thought there must have been a connection because the Stephen living with Eliza in 1850 was the age you mentioned. And the two others living with them coincided with the family members in that book. It's still possible that it was your Stephen, just living with a relative, not his mother.
