    3. Rutland Daily Herald Dec. 21, 1883 FOUND DROWNED IN LAKE ST. CATHERINE At an early hour Tuesday morning, Matthew Flarity was drowned in Lake St. Catherine while attemptingto cross over on the ice from the east to the west side of the lake, on his way to the quarries of Poultney Slate works where he was emloyed. He fell into the lake about 8 rods from the west shore and nearly opposite the Lake View House. He left home Tuesday morning and not returning to supper his family was greatly alarmed but supposed he had gone to the village Wednesday morning. Search was made for him. His hat, mittens, and dinner pail were found in the ice close to the spot where he fell into the lake. The water was over 60 feet deep in that locailty and it was with much difficulty that his body was taken up out of the blue. The unfortunate man was about 40 years of age and leaves a wife and six children. His wife is an inmate of the Utica Insane Asylum _________________________________________________________________ Don't get caught with egg on your face.
