    3. Hi, Rosemary, The LDS microfilm of Rutland County naturalizations (FHL US/CAN Film 972835) is from Rutland County Court. The LDS library also has an "Index to New England naturalization petitions, 1791-1906". This index has about 70 microfilm rolls that combine the states of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont . You send for the roll with the "soundex" code for the surname you are interested in. I didn't need to use these for the names I was interested in but from the description it doesn't appear to be the full record. The index gives name and location of the court that granted the naturalization, date of naturalization, and volume and page (or certificate) number of the naturalization record. These seem to be the only sources for naturalizations that LDS has that would pertain to Rutland, Vermont. Just out of curiosity, do you know if the municipal court records or the USDA records are accessible there locally in Rutland or perhaps through the State of Vermont? Cathy

    3. Hi Cathy, There are naturalization records in City Hall for the Municipal (Rutland City) Court and the USDA I found at NARA but the court was in Burlington. I believe there was also a Court in Fair Haven but I'm not sure when or what was there, but I will check on it when I go to the Historical Soc. My gr grandmothers brother, John Winters was naturalized in Burlington and I think it was because he served in the US Army in the Civil War and didn't need character witnesses. I don't know where, other than NARA thoes records would be. As far as I know the Rutland records have never been put in a database and I only found out about them abt a yr ago. I'd be glad to look up any names when I go to City Hall again.
