Hi Jean- This is Solomon Egbert Hooker. Orpha Giddings Hooker was his mother. He was a druggist at one time in Poultney, late 1800's. One of his twin sons married my great aunt Allie who used to live in the house across from the old firehouse, McMurtry's now I think, and the other twin used to live in the Woodruff house on College Street, next to what was Doc Hudson's -or was it Doc Mahar's? . Solomon and his father [Daniel] opened the first slate quarry in Poultney, near where the Eagle quarry once was. They also developed a cable/carriage system for slate quarries and patented it.
