Source, Rutland Daily Herald--Wed. Aug. 14, 1935. RUTLAND, VT. WOMEN TO COMPETE IN "COW- CALLING" TEST AT CASTLETON. An innovation of the Rutland County Farm bureau field day,to be held next Friday at MacRae's orchards in Castleton, will be a special cow calling contest for women. The competition will be managed and judged by Harmon Sheldon and Heman (sic) Stannard of Fair Haven. To the contestant whose call of "co-boss" travels the greatest distance and is adjudged the most commanding, from the results attained, will be awarded a gold- plated cowbell. Other features on the recreational and sports programs, according to Roy A. Borroughs of this city, county agent, will be a horseshoe pitching contest, managed by Clarence Wilbur of Tinmouth and Henry Phillips of Pittsford; a pie-eating contest, arranged by Mrs. A. B. Weeks of North Clarendon, a tug-of-war, in charge of Harrison Fish of Ira; special stunts, including a centipede contest, tilting contest, volley ball, nail-driving contest and potato race, arranged by A. D. Barnard and I. W. Horn; swimming races and diving exhibitions, under the supervision of Miss Maude Curtis of Rutland and Willard Squier of North Clarendon and two baseball games, directed by R. E. Eddy of Poultney. James Oram will manage the "North" team and Barney Wetherby and Melvin Haskins will manage the "South" team.
