I am searching for the families of Syman (Simon) WILLARD and Betsey LEIGH (d/o John LEIGH?), b. abt. 1795, of Greenwich, Washington County, NY and Poultney, Rutland County, VT. I can't find them in any US census - or anywhere! I am also searching for the parents of Jane HARSHA, b. abt 1802, of North Argyle, Washington County, NY. I have no clues here, either. More information would be helpful since early censuses tend to give numbers but not names or give limited information about people and their relationships. Time frames for location also helps with checking other kinds of records. For example, in 1860 there is a Betsey Willard, age 66, born in Vermont, living in Brattleboro, Windham county, Vermont with Theodore and Mary Green. No marital status or relationship to the family listed. The age is about right. Have you ruled her out for some reason? It might be a good idea to indicate a time frame, if you know one, for when the Willards lived in New York and when they lived in Poultney; children; and approx. dates of marriage and/or death if known. Likewise, for Jane Harsha, you won't, of course, find her listed by name in the early 1800 censuses. Possibly her parents would be listed on her marriage or death certificate. Does she have a connection to Vermont? Was she married, and was the marriage in Vermont?
