I have ancestors, Nathan and Anna (Chatterton) Doolittle, who came to Mt. Holly from around Wallingford, CT. Anyone else on this list related to him? I would like to compare research on his family. His daughter, Polly, is my great great grandmother. Polly later married John Gilman of Shrewsbury, VT. She had a son, Augustus Willard Gilman born about 5 years before she married John Gilman. Supposedly Polly went back down to CT and had him born in Wallingford, CT 20 Oct. 1833. Polly was born 10 Oct. 1812 in Mt. Holly and John Gilman was born 13 March 1814 in Gilmanton, NH; they were married 21 Oct. 1838 in Shrewsbury, VT. I have much information on other children of Nathan and Anna Doolittle. Would love to find some original records on this family. Thanks, Joann Nichols
Greetings: I expressed an interest in the postcards, with some additional information related to Mt. Holly and DEAN, in a private message. That message bounced to me with an anti-SPAM response request. I do not reply to anti-SPAM response messages. Darrell

Good morning, everyone! Recently a relative left me a collection of family history items. I've had a blast sorting through them, as any genealogist can imagine. :) Among the precious items found are a couple of old Mt. Holly postcards. One bears a picture of an elderly woman standing next to a spinning wheel. She and the wheel are in front of the side of a house. The caption reads, "Old Spinning Wheel, Mrs. L.A. Dean, Mt. Holly, VT". I believe that Mrs. Dean was related somehow to a Dean woman who married Charles H. Bent of Mt. Holly. The other postcard is fascinating! The photo was taken in winter (in Mt. Holly). There's a two store house in the background. A barn stands behind the house, and it appears that there is a train parked up behind the house at some distance. In the foreground is a four horse hitch with a 'snow roller' behind them. Seated on top of the snow roller are two people, and they're holding the reins of the horses. I've never seen a snow roller pictured before! If anyone would like to see these pictures, please contact me off-list. Oh. and I'm chasing STEWART, TODD, TUTTLE and HARRINGTON in the Mt. Holly and Wallingford areas. Specifics: Louisa Emeline Todd (1818-1863) and her husband, Levi Harrington Stewart (1809-1868). Also interested in any SEAL in the Rutland area. John W. Seal (b. 1865), worked for the railroad in Rutland Co. Thanks! Susan

In 1849-50 we passed in Wallingford two of the happiest years of a somewhat uneventful life, never since over and above adorned with hollyhocks and sunflowers. During the changing vicissitudes of more than thirty years, we had lost trace of most of the good fellows we knew and esteemed in those far away days, but whose memory yet lingers pleasantly and now and again returns to us as musically as came back to Father Prout the mellow notes of "The Bells of Shandon" Jolly Jone(?) Lernard, Gib and Charley Rustin, the Sabin boys, Norm Townsend, Steve, Joe and Tom Conley, Alfon and Steve Stafford, Harry Kelley and Bill Ballou, Honest John Moon and his brother Martin across the creek and others we might enumerate. Some no doubt have long since crossed to the other shore; others perhaps are yet lingering by the old hearth stones and many probably fighting life's battles on distant and busier fields, but good fellows all wherever their tents may be pitched. Wallingford was noted in those days for the friendliness and sociability of its people, and it is not surprising that her absent children, wherever the billows of destiny may cast them together should combine to perpetutate the inherited qualities of that good old burgh. We congratulate the Wallingford colony in Fair Haven on their numbers and respectability, and wish them many pleasant reunions.
