Rutland Herald. Fatal Accident. Michael McKairns, a resident of this town, and an employee of one of the gravel trains of the Rutland & Burlington railroad, took a gravel train at Brandon, on Monday last, to visit some of his children in Pittsford. After going about a mile from Brandon and while standing on the end of one of the cars near the brake, he fell upon the track and was run over and instantly killed. He was an Irishman who leaves a wife and five or six children. It is said he was under the influence of liquor when he fell from the car. [Tried to match this name to an individual in the census, but found no McKairns in Rutland in 1860 or 1870. However, there was a Michael McKearney, Irish, with a wife and six children in Pittsford in 1860, gone in 1870. A Pat McKearin, 19, lived in Pittsford in 1870, however, and is the right age to be the child listed as Pat McKearney in 1860. The Rutland Herald frequently misspelled names, as did the census. I just include it here as a possible match in case it is of interest to anyone.] Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have Hooker's date of birth either 1779 or 1780 and Hannah's birth as 1786. I did find a website that listed a Hooker Bartlett who was a Pvt. in the Vermont Military enlisted during the war of 1812, it lists him as the son of Albert M and Dorothy (Higgins) Bartlett. I had Hooker being the son of Ichabod and Azubah (Norton) Bartlett. So looking for Hooker and Hannah's parents. I do know that Hooker and Hannah moved to Wisconsin with their children, and that Hooker died in Fond Du Lac County Wisconsin in 1864. Here is some Misc. information about Hooker Bartlett, and possible relatives: He served in the 4 Reg't. Vermont Detached Militia in U. S. service under Capt. John Robbins' Company in Lt. Colonel William Williams Regiment. There is a pension number for him under his wife Hanna's name, number 10693. Detached militia under U. S. service is crucial information as it indicates Hooker might have a file in U. S. Infantry records also, and these files can contain important genealogical information. Two others with the surname Bartlett served with him, in the same Regiment, Andrew and Samuel Bartlett. Andrew served in the same Company and for the same length and type of service. His U. S. file might have needed information also. Samuel served in the same Regiment, but under a different Captain, Captain Saxe. He was in Detached U. S. service also, for a shorter period of time. Samuel is listed as being from Highgate. ----- Original Message ----- From: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: <VTRUTLAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 01, 2009 6:39 AM Subject: [VTRUT] Hooker Bartlett & Hannah (Baldwin) Bartlett >

Hi! Has anyone been researching the Rowley's? and if so, do you have an Elizabeth Rowley, who married a Watkins and then married Edmund Douglass? Edmund was born in 1779 and first married Orilla Hyde in 1806 in Wallingford, Rutland Co., VT - then had 8 children. Orilla died 22 Nov 1824. then he married Elizabeth Rowley and had 4 more. This is per a 1879 genealogy book on the Douglases. It doesn't give any dates for the 8 children, and doesn't list the other 4 children at all. The book lists her as Elizabeth Rowley, not Watkins, so I'm not sure where I got that info and if it is valid. any help would be greatly appreciated :-) thank you! Julie
