Died at the home of M/M George T Chaffee on South Main St in Rutland on Sunday, July 23, Mrs Deborah Ann Hotchkiss in her 91st year of heritage. Mrs Hotchkiss was born August 21, 1808 in the town of Whitehall, NY; on what is now known as the Herbert farm. She was the youngest of 6 daughters of the late Robert and Deborah Vrendenburgh. March 6, 1823 she married Joseph M Stoddard, who soon after moved onto a farm in what is known as Hampton Hollow, now occupied by Tim Donahue. 3 children were born to them: Esther, who died in infancy; Sarah A, who married Dr M Streeter, who died in December 1870; and Marvin O. now of the firm of Moseley & Stoddard Manufacturing company, Rutland. Her husband, Joseph M Stoddard died in Hampton July 14, 1857. For her 2nd husband she married Hiram Hotchkiss, also of Hampton who died in 1869. Since his death, Mrs Hotchkiss has lived with her son, until the death of his wife about 3 years ago; since which time she has lived with her Granddaughter Mrs George Chaffee. Mrs Hotchkiss and her only son have always lived together with the exception of about 1 year, which is very unusual for the length of time--nearly 60 years; and the last 3 years with her Granddaughter. Mrs Hotchkiss iwas the last member of her father's family to pass away; the sister next to her, Mrs Amanda Douglass of Iosco, Mich., having attained the age of 94 years 7 months, died on May 24. Interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery, Rutland, VT, in a beautiful spot next to that of her daughter, Mrs Stoddard. I have the entire Obituary if interested in a copy. According to Ancient Families of New Haven,Ephraim Beebe married Abigail Martin, daughter of Robert Martin and Abigail Parker. Unfortunately, it does not give a specific date, but I estimate it to be abt 1765. In 1790 they were in living in Rutland. The History of Wells, Vermont names their children and some details of their family, which I have used to add a few more details. Their children: Ephraim m Aseneth Triphena Hale; Abigail m Josiah Churchill and 2nd Joseph Bodfish; Ozias m Roxanna Andrews; Aaron m Clarissa Comstock;Silas m Levina Clark and I have not located a wife for Robert, as of yet. I was able to add their children and even some of their spouses. Abigail Martin Bebee's sister Elizabeth and her 2nd husband,Abel Wolcott also spent some time in Rutland. A child from her 1st marriage to Moses Bellamy, also appears to be in Rutland. There are 2 Searl women married into these families. They are from Whitehall New York. I have a couple of other Searl{es} married into the family also in Steuben County, New York. Does any of this sound familar to you?
