    1. Re: [VTRUT] Clarendon Land Records Book
    2. My regrets Jan, I only have 3 pages from one of the books. There appears to be 2 of them, my pages are 77, 78 and 98 from book 2. Your names are not on the pages I have. I have no idea what the date range is for these particular books. I believe one can write to the current Town Clerk and he/she will do the lookup. I also think you can somehow see these records by visiting an LDS Family History Library. You may have to order microfilm or something. Not sure how my mother got these records. 2. You're welcome. Here it is: Beath of Mary Eddy the Daughter of Jonathan Eddy and Temporance his Wife Born March 23th 1787 in Clarendon Rec'd January 5th 1788 Attest Steph Arnold Town Clerk Beath of Elisabeth Eastman the Daughter of Eli Eastman and Recbacah his Wife Born February 12th 1786 In Clarendon Recd Sept 7th 1790 Attest Steph Arnold Town Clerk Beath of Sarah Eastman the Daughter of Elia Eastman and Rebacah his Wife Born October 6th 1788 In Clarendon Rec'd Sept 7th 1790 Attest Steph Arnold Town Clerk "Birth" is spelled "Beath" throughout these pages, but the B is much different than the D in Death. There are also many dates such as the 23th, the 3th, etc. The clerk drew his 8's almost on their side and there is some phonetic spelling (eg Daucet for Dorset). Abbie was the daughter of John P. and Ada Whitmore. In 1910 they are listed in Middletown Springs with John's foster parents. William Spaulding, 67, married 45 yrs, farmer Martha Spauldin, 67, married 45 years John P. Whitmore, 44, foster son, married 19 yrs, farmer Ada Whitmore, 43, foster dau-in-law, married 19 yrs Abbie, 15, foster gr-dau Anna, 3, foster gr-dau All had been born in Vermont to Vermont-born parents, except John who was born in Vermont to a Vermont born father and a New York born mother. In 1900, John is listed as 33, living with the Spauldings along with Ada, 33, and Abbie, 5. Here John is listed with a Vermont born mother. In 1880, John at age 15 was living with the Spauldings, at which time he is listed with a Vermont born mother. In 1870, a John Whitmore, age 5, is living with Merritt (49, born in Vermont) and Maria (37, born in Vermont) Whitmore in Middletown, Vermont with 3 brothers and a sister (Merrit, 13; Annette, 10; Morell(?),8; and Willie, 2). In 1860, Merritt (35, born in Vermont) and Maria (25, born in New York) were living in Ira with Edmond, age 8, plus other children (Charlotte, 5; Merritt, 3; Annette, 4 months). Plus Sylvanus Whitmore, 19, and Chloa(?) Whitmore, 73(?). So I'd say Edmund and John are brothers and Abbie is Edmund's niece. 1. [VTRUT] Clarendon Land Records late 1700's

The entries are from the 1780's and 1790's, recorded by then Town Clerk, Stephen Arnold. The pages I have are all births and deaths, and not all of them occurred in VT. Family names include: SMITH EDDY TARBOX WESTCOT BACKER/BAKER SIMONDS TRIPP EASTMAN ROBINSON ALLEN BUCK CHAPMAN 1) if you are interested in any of these names, let me know and I will share what I have 2) if anyone does lookups from these books, I'm looking for the birth of Stephen R. Smith, son of Hope Smith and Rachel Horton, born around 1788-1790. Thanks, Sharon
