Source, Rutland Vt.Daily Herald--Fri.July 26, 1929. MAN BURNED BY STEAM WHEN LIVE COALS FALL INTO WATER. Clinton Hall, Fireman, Victim of Unusual Accident At Local Gas Plant ; Removes Embers From Fire and Becomes Trapped in Vapor- Filled Pit. Severely burned about the face, arms, neck legs and thighs, Clinton Hall, 27, of East street was in serious condition at Rutland hospital last night as the Vermont Hydro-Electric corporation's Cleveland avenue plant yesterday morning. The accident occurred while Hall was cleaning out one of the fires boxes under the retort. It is believed that through mistake he pulled the entire mass of coals into the pit at one time instead of a small amount at a time. The red hot coals struck some water in the bottom of the pit and in a second the place was filled with live steam. Blinded by the pain, it is believed that Hall plunged into the mass of coals. He was hauled to safety by fellow employes and was then taken to the office of Dr. James M.Hamilton, where he received first aid treatment. He was moved by ambulance to Rutland hospital. Dr. Hamilton stated last night that Hall, had sustained first and second degree burns on arms, legs, thighs, neck and face. Though his condition is serious, Dr. Hamilton believes that he has fair chance to recover. Hall has been working for the gas company only a short time. Recently one of the fingers of his right hand was cut off, while working on a truck. Officials of the company are investigating the accident.

I had the same problem with my grandmother's census information. The 1900 census listed her and her mother as born in Penn. The 1910 census had them born in Wales, which is the correct birthplace. I think a lot of the problems were caused by the census taker putting down the wrong information. Also the fact that most of my family only spoke welsh. Joan

That is what Grandpa Pat always told him. I have a friend who sent me the 1930 census page for Vermont and it says he told them he was born in New York. I found his listing in the 1880 census and it also lists his bp as NY. My Father says that his birth certificate had to be handed over when he came over from Ireland and they issued a new one. I know nothing about the immigration process, and with the facts I am holding in my hand, I don't quite believe this statement. Could someone answer my very innane question. I am kinda scared to bust my Fathers bubble about this but feel that I might need to get more of my questions answered. Thank all of you very much.

I was sent information from the NY 1855 and 1865 census showing Miles Foley Sr. was dead by July 1855. These census also showed that there are more children of Miles and Margaret Foley than just Miles Jr and Marg Jr. William Foley was born in Poultney, VT in 1849, Bridget was born in Poultney in 1851 and Patrick was born in NY in 1853. Miles Sr signed an US allegiance oath in NY in Oct 1853 so we can assume he died in NY between 10/1853 and July 1855. Now knowing that they lived in VT when they first came to this country I searched 1850 Poultney Census and found him listed as Milo Folrey. Included in the family was Margaret Sr's brother Patrick Cavenagh born in Ireland abt 1830. The family didn't even know of the three new children as it was never in any old family histories. If anyone finds any info on WIlliam, Bridget or Patrick Foley or Patrick Cavenagh (spelling could be different) let me know. Thanks for you help in the past and the future! Tim
