I visited Benson VT. in 2000 I was at the cemetary in Benson. I had been to many cemetaries before that one. I had a old photo of my Great Grand Father's grave , Frederick L Reed. With a big Monasic garvestone next to his and his wife, Sarah. I reconized the grave from the back, I looked at the pic so much, I reconized it immediately. Than the Historian Genevieve Trutor wrote back to me from a letter I had sent to the City Clerk there. She sent photocopies of the two pages from the Rutland History book and a pic of the General Store with my Grandfather out front and I think the postman was his son? not sure on that. So bless her hert. Than I was held up with a car accident and we started traveling in our RV for the last three yrs. So, I have a bit on F. Reed and have his medal from the army and discharge papers my Aunt left me. I'd like to know more about My Father Robert Riggs, mother FannyC. Reed/Riggs and her dau Rachel Riggs.

I believe it's from that one ... I have to sort out my work papers a bit. I think I found it either at the University of Vermont library in Burlington, Vermont or at the Mormon Library in Salt Lake City.... you can check the Mormon index online. Where are you located ? What info are you searching in that history ? Are you related to Byron A. Carter ? I have other data from Benson... some extracts from town records, photos of Carter family graves, etc. I visit there every couple of years.

Fair Haven Era Feb. 18, 1904 "Annie Doyle, who has been in the millenery business at this place for the past two years was married Tues. Morning Feb. 9th to J.F.Powers of Middletown Springs, in the church of the Immaculate Conception at Plattsburgh NY by the Rev. Father Kelly. Miss Norah Powers, a sister of the groom was the bridesmaid and John Doyle a nephew of the bride was the best man. Owing to the recent death of the bride's father only relatives of the contracting parties were present at the marriage ceremony and partook of the wedding breakfast that followed. Mr. and Mrs. Powers went to Montreal on their wedding trip. They returned the later part of the week to Fair Haven and are now making their home in the Herrington Block on Main Street." pjp
